which brings us back to the core point.

If someone is dying to express their thoughts. If they bought the same game as millions, but somehow are so self-absorbed that they think that other people are "just dying to know what I have to say"....

Well, those folks are going to say it no matter what. On these forums, behind the local news reporter, calling all of their BFF's, telling grandma who hasn't heard anything since 1996.... they are going to express themselves, or explode because they can't.

Since they can't be silenced, and the mess (if they were to actually explode) would be enormous, and since they certainly can't be expected to get a better grip on the fact that their experience is not as unique or news-worthy as they suspect..... As the potential audience, we simply need to "turn the channel".

Exactly. The best way to handle this situation is to just leave the forums. If you don't want to read the spoilers, then just get off the forums. I wouldn't mined having the forums turned off. However, I don't think it's a probable solution to the problem.

But. . . . what if there were no Moderators, at all, in the Halo 3 forum, for one, even two dayes!
*shudders*
The amount of threads. . and spam. . . . . Turning off the forums to, maybe the 27th would/should assure Moderators, moderating, in all forums.

Even though I truely hope there will be atleast one moderator, moderating, there is still a possibility for it to happen. . . . . .

Nah! B.net mods wouldent do that! They would walk through ice and fire to moderate our forums safe from evil!!
They would never abandon us! Even though it would mean risk of seeing a Halo 3 spoiler!
Right?

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Right?

They are people. They are fans like us. They fear spoilers just as much as anyone else here. So I wouldn't exactly go that far. Remember, them being mods isn't a 'job' it's volunteering. If they feel the need to take a leave, they do, and that's that. They have things to do just like the next person.

That would be fine, and it would not be taking it too far.

If people truly think that a Forum Website is that important, then just one big "WOW!."

I know that quite a few harry potter websites shut down their forums to prevent spoilers from spreading through their websites. I think the forums were down for a good 3-4 days at that. Their audience contains some much younger fans who could take quite a long time to finish the book themselves so they used that course of action.

Reading through what the mods have said I understand why there wont be a mini closure to the forums, but I do have to ask what will people be able to talk about in the halo 3 forum concerning the game without giving spoilers? Should we follow a certain "topic" format?

My guess, is that everyone must place 'SPOILERS' in the subject line, to let everyone aware that the topic contains spoilers. That way, spoilers may still be posted, but they must have a spoilers tag to the subject line. A 'Read at your own risk' if you will.

What's the statute of limitations on spoilers? That is to say, how long do we have to wait until the events of the game are no longer considered spoilers, but are instead considered common knowledge (like the events of Halo and Halo 2)?

Me, I would say there is no limitations for spoilers, as long as the thread is clearly marked with a 'SPOILERS' tag. As for how long till the spoilers are no long considered spoilers, I would say about a month or so.

When you hear the thunder, and see the lightning, get ready...for the perfect storm...

I think to solve all these problems is just to shut down the forums for one day.
Besides, the moderators need a break for one day to enjoy this historical event, after all the hard work they have been through.

Thats my thought.

But the Halo 3 forum is made to discuss Halo 3. And if the forum is closed they can't. Also the Moderators don't have to moderate then, they can beat the game or do whatever they choose.

Uh huh, and are the moderators probably going to be on, even if the forums are open? If I was one, I wouldn't be, and I would expect for most others to be MIA as well. Look, most of the moderators won't be on anyhow, might as well turn off the forums, it's one day.

I know it won't allow people to discuss the game, but will anyone who is "discussing" the game have let it sink in? Probably not. It will also prevent most spoilers as they will have been posted all across the internet. There would also be private groups if people wanted to talk about Halo 3.

Good idea! Any members that join on the 22nd and after should have to wait until the 25th to be able to post.

The problem here isn't Sep. 25. Most people are going to be playing H3 that day and it will be difficult to maintain a discussion in the forum anyways. The problem is someone coming on the forums a couple days before the 25th and posting spoilers.. :S

I'm sorry, but if the Mods are stupid enough to want to come on here and moderate on the day, then that's there choice should they have the plot ruined for themselves. As far as I'm aware, there's no rule that dictates to them that they MUST be on whenever possible. I'm sure that come September 25th (what with the new Bnet and all), Achronos, and Stosh (he got Halo 2 early, so it's off that I base my judgement) will perform a fine job should they choose to be on.

The greatest trick the devil ever played was covincing the world he didn't exist!!!

U will never catch me !!!!

One way to limit the amount of spoilers is to make a new forum! This new forum could be just for people who have completed the game! I doubt this would happen, however maybe if a sticky was made saying that people who want to talk about the finished campaign should post here!

Im sure a forum ninja will come along shortly and squash my theory! Oh well atleast I tried!!

I'm quite certain that near Halo 3's release (or on it's release date), there will be a forum split. Halo 3 Multiplayer, Halo 3 Forge, Halo 3 Campaign, and maybe a saved films forum. Who knows what there'll be and when it'll happen, but I'm quite sure something will.
