I started this post because I was interested to see what ideas people have about how Chief gets to the covenant homeworld. Heres my idea:

It comes from the end of the e3 demo 2003, when the sword weilding elites come out of the pods. I thought maybe they capture master chief and take them to their homeworld and that is where you meet the prophet character. It would be cool if there is a level were you have to break out of a covenant prison. Upon further exploration of the planet(s) you find a weakest in the Covenant Armada sent to destroy earth. Then you fly back to earth for the final stand and to save mankind.

no
firstly covenant don't take prisoners and the only one was keyes for knowledge they wanted
and 2 they hate chief completely all the hunters in halo were sent as assasins to kill you by elites

Though that would be cool as Ribok stated Elites dont take prisners.
Infact my guess is you dont even fight those elites, MC will probably "stick it to them" like in the e3 singleplayer and you wont even see them getting owned.

well I you've read first strike then one guy (can't remember who) but he's says they have these bombs called novas which are extremely powerful warheads and they the covenant to take them back to there homeworld so it can blow it up

so
level idea:
you are sent in a crate or something and so is the nova(s) and you land in different areas and then you have to find the novas activate it and escape the place maw style

yes exactly but this time much harder that would also make a good ending to the game like after fending off waves off covenant and the attack on earth is temporarily over then you go to a cutscene where you meet with the brass and strategize and this would lead to my mission

except instead of all out killing you would use stealth to find the novas and not alert the covenant of your presnce but still lots of battle scenes
of course

My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.
My Stats

First of all you are making one big assumption -that the Covenant even have a homeworld. In the the book FS last chapter it only refers to the city "high charity" in a "sanctum of heirarchs" and even this is described as a bulbous planetoid....

I've stated this theory before and I guess I should name it, but i think the Covenant detest planets (almost as a sign of weakness of the race that inhabits it). THey revered the first Halo we saw quite religiously, and in that same last chapter in First Strike it details how the room that the prohet resides in is filled with shards of glass each representing a glassed planet and a conquered race.
They obviously don't care for inhabitable planets, leading me to speculate and theorized (okay it's the Gypsie Theory) that the Covies don't even have a planet they call home. They're just cruisin through the galaxy on some bad ass Forerunner technology that allows them to live independant of "worlds".

The Cheif probably only firghts the Covies on earth, a forerunner instalation (Halo Documentary, perhaps just another ring) and probably on another Covie cruiser. But whatever it is i wouldn't be expecting a bonified Covie planet level.

I think teh covenant are sooo pissed off with teh human race cos the forerunners ( who i think were the advanced versions of humans) did summat real bad to them in their past which means they now live off space algae floating around on rogue asteroids. the covenant most likely stole some forunner technology and fought the forerunners off, or they buggered off to deal with 'The Flood' situation, this meant that the covies gained strength and now are trying to rid the galxy of humans because the covenant belive that they were the bastards who blew up their planet or sum crap like that
