Yes, people most certainly take this game too seriously. Not only the younger crowd, but older people as well.
I wish to cite a game I played a couple weeks ago as an example. I was in a team skirmish match on Ascension. My team was being beaten in a one flag capture the flag match and I was trying to sneak over to my opponents. On the way I found a sniper rifle, picked it up, raced to a tower, and saw that they had our flag in the center of the map. I tried to line up a shot, but since I am no world class sniper, I missed my first, and the rotating pillars in the center blocked my second and third shot. Consequently, the other team captured our flag.
The response I got for simply missing three sniper shots was ludicrous. One of my teammates (who sounded at least 17 years old) proceeded to scream at me over the microphone, loudly voicing that I sucked at sniping, and at Halo 2 in general. At the end of the match I was told "get another life, because you SUCK at Halo!" All this because in one instance I missed THREE shots.
I have seen other players be similarly chewed out for missing one or two shots, and that is only anger over missed sniper shots, let alone poor skill in general. To once again answer the question, YES, people take this game too seriously.
