one way to deal with trash talkers is to do the exact opposite back to them. Be as nice as possible to them. That is what gets the flamers most angry. You should try it, it'll make you chuckle... and you can't get feedbak for beeing nice so you're covered.
That's what I do usually. Flaming them back gives them the satisfaction of knowing they irritate you. If you show no negative signs, it annoys them because they acted like a bunch of jerks and they get no reward.

It's not that there are so many mean people on XBL, its just that that's all you notice. You know what I mean?
The human race is known for pointing out and remembering negative things. I am sure that there are more good than bad, but unfortunately its the bad we remember.
Yeah, I remember a lot more bad experiences with people on XBL. However I've noticed this the most on Halo 2. The people in the Halo 3 beta were a lot nicer IMO. It also seems that the people posting in the forums are nicer in my experience. =)
Edit: Toxic, I hear and say a lot more than shut up too, but i prefer not to make an idiot out of myself over XBL.
that's true, halo 2 is worse, and the forums are getting worse, i mean there are so many spam posts these days, nobody is talking about the actual game/topic - especially in the halo 3 forum.
i feel your pain
Well, the Halo 3 spam is gonna be terrible around the release date. Why do I have a feeling that once Halo 3 comes out all the immature people will migrate there? =|
they will... and it will be our job to correct their wrong
oh boy.. that'll be tough.
indeed it will, but by promoting peace to everyone you see, it will do signifigant change. promote peace, by giving peace - remember that
How exactly do you promote peace in a game where killing your opponents is your primary objective? 0:]
i mean your attitude during and after the game, mostly when the talking is being done.
like good game, or good job and stuff like that.
and if someone is being dumb, be kind to him and he will learn a lesson, whether you realize it or not.
haha, I know what you meant.

Try playing a custom game with your friends or make a small LAN party, then you'll notice that Halo 2 is fun, just some idiots make it a horrible experience, on Xbox Live of course.
I had fun when I used to do that, but now all my friends don't play Halo 2 anymore.
I'm willing to play with new people though. =D
Alright, I'm out for tonight. Later.
