I just got Halo 2 with my new gaming computer and I am having trouble connecting with Live. Every time I try to sign in with my Live account it says downloading profile then it asks me to update. When I say yes the game chops a bit then it says it is unable to connect. I went to the games for windows site and tried every one of the troubleshooting tips, even manually installing the update and it still does the exact same thing. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Anyone? I'm sure it isn't a firewall but you never know with Vista.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Forward your ports.

What it is.

Everyone(not literally, but as in there is a majority that have Live problems) is having problems with Live. MS/Hired Gun are too damn lazy to fix it.

I'll try port forewarding and see if it works. And too bad MS wouldn't fix what the messed up in the first place.

I tried port forwarding and it still does the same thing. Even after I reinstalled the game and manually did the update its the same.

Make sure that if you have a firewall installed (say, Norton Internet Security) that C;\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\halo2.exe has full access, and that TCP and UDP port 2424 is opened. It will not work if it is set to "Allow All Ports" or something like that.

I added all the ports to the exceptions list on windows and Norton firewall and even shut down Norton temporairly and it still does not connect. I really dont know what to do now, maby try to reinstall the update.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Halo 2 for Windows Vista. Try calling Microsoft technical support (800-MICROSOFT). Didn't help me any, but it's probably your only option.

Hey Spartan 198,

I work for Microsoft as a test developer on the Games for Windows - LIVE team. I might be able to help you out.

First off, which update did you download and install manually? Can you copy and paste the link where you downloaded from?

Second, I need to understand your internet connection a little better. Is it DSL? Cable? Is it a PPP connection? Dial-UP? ;-)

Finally, can you post the output from an IPCONFIG /ALL command? Here's how...
1. Click the start button jewel thing.
2. Type "cmd" and press ENTER.
3. Type "IPCONFIG /ALL" and press ENTER.
4. Copy and paste the output from that command into a reply so we can take a look.

Don't worry. We'll get you up and running. Sorry you're having trouble. :-(

Hey gilgamesh, if you actually work for M$ please ask them to patch H2V, the issues are all listed by players on their forum.

Oh yeah, have them also smack the SHIIIIIT out of Hired (gun) Idiot for not communicating with the gaming public.

Those -blam!-s just say we are a small shop.. .well guess what... they reflect on M$.

At least gearbox tried to help. I will never..EVER touch a game they touch. Bum with a knife is as useless as a bum with a knife... drunk, slow and to stupid to know where he is.

Let me know if was unclear in my opinion of hired gun or bum with a knife.

Thanks.

Yeah, nice for people to randomly drop by and fix SOME people's problems.
