I haven't read the books (but I plan to before Halo 2 comes out), but I've heard a lot of mention of the Covenant ship Unyielding Hierophant. The first thought that came to my head was "What is a Hierophant?" I looked it up, and here's the definition:"in ancient Greece, a priest of mystery cult."I then looked it up on Google and found that "a Hierophant is a priest who interprets secret knowledge."Here's the link to the site: http://www.learntarot.com/maj05.htm. Look at the graphic in the upper left. Kinda looks like a Prophet, doesn't it? Here's an enlarged pic: http://www.learntarot.com/bigjpgs/maj05.jpg. So a Hierophant is a Greek priest who interprets secret knowledge. Another link between Halo and Ancient Greece. What do you think? Does this have any importance in the Halo 2 story?[Edited on 6/2/2004 1:26:41 PM]
Go to Google and type in "hierophants in ancient greece". You get a bunch of interesting sites. Here's one of them: http://altreligion.about.com/library/texts/bl_kybalion1.htm. There are a few similarities to Halo, like Hermes (the Master of Masters) being deified and revered by the Egyptians. Kinda sounds like the Covenant deifying the Forerunner. Tarot cards? Whats that got to do with prophets?Nice detective work by the way. This is the first post without spam Iv'e seen today!
The Hierophant web site was for a Tarot Card Club or something. I hoped it would be a nice attention getter (but it probably makes it seem like spam). [Edited on 6/2/2004 1:40:51 PM]
