In The Fall of Reach, when the Spartans are getting briefed about their mission to capture a covenant vessel, Doctor Halsey states that "Here are all the surviving Spartans save three, who are engaged in places too remote to easily recall". Wouldn't that mean that there were still 3 spartans plus the master chief (not including the ones who survived Reach). But the rest of the books say that Master Chief was the only surviving spartan other than the Reach guys...hmmm....guess they made another mistake or something.

While the SPARTAN IIs were being breifed on a new mission there was a mention of a few of SPARTANs unavailable because of distant fighting. But there has been no mention of any of those SPARTANs since, meaning they are either dead or...there is some deeper meaning behind them that we will find out later.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

No, there are no more Spartans than the 5 that we know are still alive at the end of First Strike.

For proof of this, see my first post on another thread here.

Its all about the math. Even with the slight discrepency I described in my post, 3 more would be too many... it wouldn't add up.

In First Strike, they confirmed their deaths, even though they didn't specifically say that. It mentions that John's tallying of the roster for the Spartans, where he says that all but ___ are MIA but dead. Those 5 are him, Kelly, Linda, Fred, and Will.

exactly.. however, it would be interesting if Dr. Halsey went to find them if they ACTUALLY were MIA (the 3 spartans to distant to recall...)

Not So on Page: 334

HALO: FIRST STRIKE

He strode to the three forward viewscreens and stared into blackness. He wanted solitude, to gaze at nothing, and complete the task that he dreaded.
John pulled his team roster onto his heads-up display. He ran down the list, designating all those who had died on Reach, and afterward, as Missing In Action. James, Li, Grace... and all his dead teammates who would never officially be "allowed" to die. And in his mind, they would never find any peace until this war was won. He paused at Kelly's name.
John listed her as MIA, too. She was ironically the only Spartan truly missing, whisked away by Dr. Halsey on some secret pri -vate mission. John knew that whatever the doctor had planned, she would protect Kelly if she could. Still, he couldn't help but worry about them both.

He only lists those who had died on Reach & in First Strike. It still makes no mention of the three missing Spartans.
