Subject: Text Pictures on Bungie-Do They Need to Stop?

Don't send me group invites.

I'm too lazy to have anything else here, sorry if you are now disappointed.

More and more now I see people posting a picture made out of text in these forums. They were funny at first, but now they are just becoming annoying. These pictures are becoming abused by people who think they are funny posting these. I believe that Moderators should start banning people who do this. I do not usually post here so sorry if this has been posted before.

I agree. They were cool at first, but I too find them a bit annoying. There are times that they would appear to fit, but they are all getting old, and all getting overused. However, I have not actually seen that many recently. I don't think that a ban should be used for them, but if someone uses them way too much, then a warning, and if they do it any more, then a short ban.

Actually, when these things started, they blossomed so quickly and got so out of control that mods had to step it up like crazy. People were banned.
So I don't think they're tolerated.

  • 08.27.2007 7:31 PM PDT

They need to be more creative and stop posting the same picture over and over again.

The variety would keep them funny, and not overused.

That must have been before my time. When was it?

I agree with that, but it would never happen. People are not generally smart enough for something like that. If new ones were posted, then they would be found funny, then everyone would just overuse those, continuing the never-ending cycle.

ASCII 'art' is ASCII art. I could care less, really. As long as it's portraying something I'd rather not see. ;)

Haha, ASCII art in a forum is not a fad... it's been around since the days of Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs). Of course, I'm willing to bet that you are way too young to have ever dialed into a local BBS on a 600 baud modem....

Yes, it will go. I just hope that it never really comes. But as for the rules, it could be considered spam. I guess it just depends on the ninja who finds it, whether they consider it bad or not.

I've always thought it was spam, annoying, and just plain stupid.

The one two posts above me is the most annoying one out there. I can't stand it. Some even make my browser slower.

I'm in support of prohibiting the use of those pictures in stupid situations. Say, for instance, using that "guy rubbing his head" picture when someone makes a silly/spam thread.

But an outright Rick Roll-style ban seems harsh. When used appropriately, they're quite amusing (if it's good art).

That 'guy rubbing his head' is Captain Picard. And it's called *facepalm*.

A facepalm is used to indicate disgust/exasperation, usually at the previous poster's post. You should consider it an insult, along the lines of 'n00b' and such.
Is it can be 7-day ban tiem now plz?

There's another picture like that that I think is much better...but I can't remember where to look for it...

I think its format got messed up with the newest hotness, but I could be wrong.

<_<

No, seriously though, it's not too much of a nuisance. If someone wants to do a virtual facepalm, I'm all for it. It's good to slap your forehead in disgust once in awhile. ;)

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

You're right, the current usage of ASCII art is a fad, and will probably pass. But try not to take things so seriously. His bet that you have never used a "600 baud modem" says more about that fact that 99% of the people on these forums have never used such a thing. It was also, I would imagine, an attempt at humor, not an attack at you.

Anyways, I don't see them as that big of a deal. I'm more fond of creative ones though. In other words, something that the poster created (or at least not completely over-used).

Also, I can almost guarantee you that those text based images aren't slowing down your browser as much as that little scrolling statistic under the search bar.

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You
RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

It is very slightly annoying, sometimes, when it goes too far.

Perhaps people should be banned for spamming with them, but not for posting them. Come on now, next there'll be insta-bans for anyone posting *facepalm* etc. etc. which is often the best reply you can give... And are the perfect reply to absurd topics like that!

When used correctly, they make me laugh, so no I don't think they should be banned. Drop your personal vendetta, and ease off a little...

  • 08.28.2007 4:25 AM PDT

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

Personally I find it more annoying than youfail.org links for the simple reason that at least youfail.org is just a link and doesn't take that much space. Those ascii pictures take up a lot of space.

The problem with the ascii art is the same problem with things like youfail.org. They don't add anything constructive to the conversation. Making the facepalm ascii art is just a fancy way of saying "idiot". Making a reply saying "you're an idiot" would probably be considered flaming and/or spam.

Wow, touchy! It wasn't an insult dude.... Lose the macho posturing, you look silly. Clearly I dont know you, since you're posting on an alt account that's only six days old.

But at any rate, you're still wrong. You name me any one- or two-week period in time since these forums have existed, and I will go back and find you ASCII art posted somewhere in the forum. It's not a fad. ASCII art has been around forever, on these forums and before Bungie even existed.

I never post ASCII art, but to be honest, it doesn't bother me one bit. There are much more important things to spend your time worrying about.
