Is it a bad connection?
Never having host?
Is there some secret technique to playing Halo that I just never got the memo on?
All of the above.
First, check your connection here. What's more important to you than upload/download is your Round Trip Time and Max Pause. Most cable broadband gives RTTs between 40 and 65ms, and as long as you're under 90ms you should be OK. Max Pause should be within that range, although if it's 125 to 150ms you'll still be "OK".
Also, is there any other equipment networked off your XBox -- like is someone else surfing/downloading at the same time? That will affect performance as well. Someone else posted something about NAT settings yesterday, not sure which thread it was.
And, as far as the "secret technique" goes, it's called button glitching. I run across it nearly every game these days. And yes, I, too was higher in rank before the reset. Many have complained about the same thing. It has to do with the rampant cheating and circle boosting going on recently. Players have multiple accounts, and get together with buddies who alternately de-rank and boost so they can be matched against lower-level players.
no wonder i cant get back up to lvl 31 in snipers if my connection is as bad as that site says sometimes, in the past 5 mins ive tested myself 3 times and gotten resuls ranging from a max pause of 190 ms to 1200 ms and round trip time of up to 280 ms. one result showed my queality of service was at 10% and another showed it at 93%, this must also be the reason how i perform from match to match varies quite alot too, is that right or am i taking this information wrongly
