Note to idiots: I'm not posting this because I got killed, it's a game.

I shoot people (crosshair right on them, the smoke or white line hits them ) but they never get hurt or killed. You can see a small blood spat, this is odd in no shield games since one shot kills you.

I know I'm not the only one since it has happened to other people. Their shot will hit me perfectly ( I also get taken out of zoom if I am, I can alsohear it ) but I still live, unharmed.

Note this the only weapon I have the problem with.

I can think of three reasons for this, but the first one only applies to Halo PC. (since Halo 2 Vista was shipped supporting user-created maps, there was no need for an additional application to run them):
1. If you're playing Halo Custom Edition, the person may be using devmode to make themselvs unable to die. (yes you can do this, but I won't say how, since the game is supposed to stop you from playing online multiplayer with devmode on)
2. When you fire, the server's lag (even if the game continues to run smoothly, it can still be lagging) causes the bullet to go slightly off-target. (this is usually the reason for me while I'm trying to snipe someone)
3. I think there's a very small area around the player model where the recticle will turn red/green, but when you fire it will miss ever so slightly.

It's normal Halo. My ping is usaully 50-200,100-110 is the most common.

Well, other people sometimes hit me, with around the same ping.

If there's no way to change this, is there any way to get hits? Or lower ping? I'm not in to this computer stuff.. :/

Halo PC? Are you new to it?

Not really. I use to play the Xbox version more. I just bought it not to long ago. I guess I am sort of new to Halo multiplayer.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Lead.

  • 08.28.2007 1:52 PM PDT

In that case, from what you say, you're not familiar with the netcode.

With Halo PC you have to lead your shots. it's unfortunate, but true, as everything you see in game has already happened. Which is why when you get hit, you survive, because in reality they didn't hit you, but on your screen they did.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

You have to lead your shots based upon your ping as well as the other guy's ping. Generally speaking though, you have to lead A LOT.

This is why little butts made the aimbot. Use it for a bit (yeah ppl will flame and biitch, but who gives a rats asss), and you can actually learn to use the sniper rifle quite nicely. It is seriously like training.

Ya just lead a bit to the side where they are headed, roughly .7 of their body size and bam! you got em.

I'd agree with you if you were talkign about CMT's sniper rifle, I can never hit anything with that! But with the Halo PC, I can be a God if I put my mind to it.

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition

I have noticed this, too. But I also noticed that it only seemed to happen if I was near a wall. I think you're getting hit with a ricochet bullet or fragments of the wall. Either that, or there is a zone around the player that counts as a partial hit or graze which will take you out of zoom and take some health, but not kill.

Aimbots will not teach you how to play. How is letting a program aim for you, and learning nothing about technique going to help?

Don't do it.

if u sweep the crosshairs across the screen about an inch or 2 it will hit his head or where ever u sweep across the body.

Lead the targets. aim slightly ahead of the direction they're running.

I dont know what these guys are talking about. Just keep aiming right on them and you'll get them sooner or later. It only takes me 2 clips to kill someone with pistol so I'm pretty good. (1 to 1.5 clips if I'm having a good day.)

"Messages" between players' computers travel really slowly in Halo PC. Basically you have to shoot where your enemy will be in about a quarter of a second or more or less depending on your ping. Some think it's just stupid, some think it's cheating, some think it's great because it requires skill, but that's the way it is.

Pretty good you say? Good players (who lead their shots) kill with 3 or 4 well aimed pistol shots -.-

I've found that a good method to lead is to find a noo- uh, less skilled player who moves in straight lines and is oblivious to people shooting at him, travel parallel to him (best if he's running 90 degrees to you) and shoot with the pistol ahead of him (so you start at his head and move forward). When you hit (see shield flash/tone) stop moving the mouse and simply strafe while firing. That should make all the shots hit if he's traveling in a straight line. After you've learned your average lead distance, try it on an all sniper server (assuming you don't get cut down within a few seconds). You'll learn fast.

Is leading shooting a few feet foward, and with luck, it'll actaully hit the enemy?

I'm talking about the sniper rifle, not pistol. I'm good with the pistol, it's the sniper rifle that never works.

I'm usaully in sniper games, where people move left-right constantly, I even tried shooting right in their path but it never hits them. If you're host, is leading required, and is it in campaign? I haven't used the sniper much in campaign.

Not luck. Despite the horrible netcode that forces you to lead, I've learned to trust it; it's consistent. If you become better at it, it won't be because of luck.

The host of a server does not suffer from latency, and therefore, doesn't need to lead. However, hosting a server is lame and it's not challenging when it's as simple as point-and-click.

I can kill in like 3 shots. Only because I cheat though.

It's consistent as long as your ping to the server is.

Also, on heavily loaded servers you may find shots that were aimed perfectly not hitting the enemy, but apart from that...
