I realize that this would mean Bungie.net wouldn't be open to each and every one of its fans, which I think is what Bungie is trying to do here, but I think we seriously need people to pass some sort of literacy test before they can sign up.

Exhibit A: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=12599384

I mean... we have the text formatting legend right below the box to enter your post in, yet some people don't even know how to use that.

Who knows, maybe some sort of peer rating system would work too? For example, you'd have to get 3 people who have been members for over a month to "sponsor" you for you to be able to make new topics after joining?

Don't we wish... I think you just have to stay away from the H3 forum if you want to avoid that. For the most part, people can write in complete sentences here. I think it would be a great thing if our primary goal was having readable forums, but a higher priority is to let every community member in whether or not they understand what the caps lock key does.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Just because some people don't know how to write proper English, and know how these forums work, it don't mean that they can't participate in them. It is the public forums.
Join or make a closed group if you don't like it the way it is.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

meh, most things can be deciphered phonetically.

The lack of proper spelling didnt do anything to alter the meaning of the post (however misplaced it may have been) so I don't really have a problem with it.

What I do have a problem with is you making look at something in the Halo 3 forum.

Even if there were a literacy test, which I completely disagree with, it would be completely pointless. People are "smart enough" to know how to pass it and then once they do, they'll just go back to typing as if they were using an instant messaging program.

It's a public forum. Everyone has a right to share their ideas, even if they are completely and utterly incomprehensible.

Exactely. It would be completely useless.

Not to mention it would close the forum off to foreign users who have poor english skills.

Controlling fission events without incident since May, 2012.

Another repeated idea. I agree with you completely, but there's bound to be something that will make people critical of it. Such as, the time it would take to make a program which can't simply be bypassed through copy and paste.

Sometimes, those foreign users have better English than people who were taught English since birth. It's quite astonishing really.

That's because they try hard not to make a fool of themselves. Whereas as some english speaking users try to do nothing but.

I'm Norwegian, and I write more understandable English than most other people that participate in these forums.

Im not saying that they don't, just that it would alienate alot of people who either don't know much english or use crappy translators to read what goes on.

Very true. In some foreign countries they don't teach English at school. So, by adding different tests here it would make it too hard for people to attend these forums (Which is supposed to be public)
