Anyone actually spend the extra money to play a game online like this? If so, how is it?

I was in the closed beta. At the very start, it was a very stable, content-filled game of wonder and greatness. A few bugs here and there. Levelling was fast, and I was looking forward to PvP as an Undead Warrior.

I was dead wrong.

As more and more patches came out, the levelling became significantly slower at all levels. Combat become tougher, and it seemed that every time I found a character I really liked, Blizzard nerfed it. Hard. To the point of unplayability. I began to run short on quests after 25, and as a Horde player, it was pretty much impossible to PVP without being 'Zerged'. My interest in the game finally turned into a mild contempt and boredom when I got my mount. I finally got a character to 40. A Troll Shaman, in fact. But then I realized: I had nothing left to look forward to. At level 60, there was nothing but Battlegrounds(not in the game at the time) and instance runs. I was done playing until release.

The final straw came weeks later when Blizzard announced a November release. I was pissed. The game was clearly not done, was wildly unstable, had clipping problems, had drastic unbalances, and had a lack of quests at higher levels. I'm not sure it's changed much, but I'll probably never buy it after that disappointment.

Must be your first mmorpg.

Speaking as someone who's played several of them, I must say I find it to be an awesome game, probably the best in its genre. The design is innovative and fun enough to make it a great game for people of all levels of mmorpg experience to come in and enjoy, and its visual design is simply stunning. I get together with a group of friends every night and we play, and I'm rather enjoying it.

It was my first MMORPG besides Lineage and Lineage II, which I was appalled by. I guess I'm not an MMO person.

Horde and Alliance characters cannot play co-operatively. You can ride a wolf if you are a Horde player and choose that as your mount at level 40/60. Mounts are incredibly expensive, though, I grinded day and night for a full week to get 100g for my mount.

Guild Wars for me, bro - my ISP is the only one I pay to let me play online.

It's also a lot prettier.

No. Like almost all MMORPGs, it is not only unplayable offline(seriously), it costs a monthly fee to play online. I wish more games would introduce annual fees like XBL.

is it hard to get gold on there? and if you were a horde character, could you still visit human lands like Azeroth or something? (vice-versa as well)

I would love to play a MMO, and warcraft being one of my favorite game series of all, I would of course like to play WOW. But my interent has problems. its fast enough, but because its wireless it cuts out for a few seconds then comes back on. playing any online game is hard because of that. and I need that problem fixed before i can play

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

I can't get enough of WoW, it just pulls you in and does not let you go! It is totally worth the fifteen bucks a month!

I have been playing Warcraft 3 for a while now. I really enjoy the game, have read up on World of Warcraft, think it looks fun, and will be getting it for Christmas.

I was in the closed beta... because I am a "Blizzard Friend". Basically, I get in all the beta's right away because I found a major bug in the WC3 beta.

I never played my WoW beta... just gave it to a friend because his internet was faster...

But how good is it? I don't know if spending money on it would be a good thing for me... considering I'm pretty much done with Halo 2 already...

$15. Again, this is just how MMORPGs are.

Yeah, at first. Gold isn't the starting currency. 100 Copper is 1 Silver, and 100 Silver is 1 Gold. I got my first gold piece at level 20 or so. As for your latter question, there are surprisingly few zones that are designated as one-faction friendly. As you reach the higher levels, you'll be going all over the world, and crossing continents constantly. I still remember when I could just teleport to the other continent instead of taking the damned Zep!

15$ a month...Guess I wont be playing WOW for a while. Thats kind of ridiculous, its 60$ to buy the game than you got to pay just to be able to play the damn thing...So theirs no offline whatsoever?

DDRCoheed, MMORPGS are HUGE. Most people probably couldn't fit wow on their computer. So, you have to pay a monthly fee for powerful servers, constant updating and adding, GM's required to keep things civilized, in a barbaric sense of course.

I've never liked the idea of playing a MMORPG as I never spend alot of time playing games, at least not to make it worth a monthly fee.

*waves EU Final Beta cd* I got this funny thing to test the game. It "costs" 99 crowns (norwegian currency, not alot) and it gives me a cd key for the final beta which starts pretty soon. If I decide to buy the real game I get a 99,- discount. I'll see if it's worth my time! ^_^

It would work, I have windows XP and I played 1 day in US open beta. MMORPG stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Play Game, which also explains why there's no offline version ;)
