Seriously, I don't think nearly as much of them any more. Just, everything about halo 2 isn't very appealing. I was just wondering what you guys thought.

I love Bungie a lot more because of Halo 2.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

I think they're slipping. But if you grade them on a curve with the rest of the world then they are doing fine.
Pessimists can judge on curves.

For a lot of people, the only direction Bungie could possibly go is down. I think that might have something to do with it. I didn't really think too much of Halo: CE because of the pistol, so that changes my views a lot. Bungie has, in my opinion, created Halo 1 going 130 MPH on fire through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas, and the ninjas were on fire too.

Halo 2 comes very close to hitting the mark that Marathon did. I'd like to see a console recreation of the Marathon series, myself. It would lack the same charm the original version did, but it'd spread the game to a far wider audience.

Bungie is meh. Halo 2 wasn't that impressive. I was bored during the majority of the campain, and the multiplayer stayed interesting for a week at most.

It was a good effort, but a swing and a miss.

Edit: To add, I think this was a design error, NOT an implimentation error. Conceptual design was off. The design was put into play very, very well though.

I know it's popular to bash Bungie at the moment, but I think they're as strong as they've ever been. I was totally enamored throughout the game, and I will play MP for a long, long time.

Most people have the wrong impression of what Bungie is. They have been around alot longer than many developers (hell, they almost single-handedly kept the Mac afloat). Most people first heard of them due to Halo. Each successive release garnered greater and greater popularity from the mainstream. Until Halo, Bungie's fanbase was extremely niche, a small group of hardcores who understood and appreciated Bungie's creativity.

Halo 2 is very much in line with Bungie's design philosophy. Compare Halo 1/Marathon 1 with Halo 2/Marathon 2. The differences between the respective games is nearly parallel. However, people generally loved M2 even more than the first. What happened?

When I look at the public's complaints with Halo 2, they all boil down into two main points. Points that are totally contradictory. One group claims H2 feels like an expansion pack, that it's the exact same thing in a prettier package. The others complain that it's too different and it "doesn't feel like Halo."

Huh?

I'm not even including those who complain about the ending. I refuse to acknowledge them. For the millions of people who just joined the Bungie fandom, Halo 1 was the only thing they had to base their criticism on. Now how is a sequel that is larger, prettier, more involved (story-wise), more balanced, boasting more features and is an overall superior game...somehow weaker than the original in so many people's eyes?

I am sorry to say, but the problem is you. I'm not going to sound like a broken record by restating the obvious accusations of overinflated expectations or people's attachment to the gameplay and concepts of the original leading to this general disappointment, because everyone knows it already...they just refuse to admit it. Because of Halo, so many claimed to be fans of Bungie.

You were not fans of Bungie, apparently. You were fans of Halo. Halo 2 did not disappoint. You disappointed yourselves by refusing to accept change and what Bungie is truly about.

Some of the people who post to say they hate Halo 2 actually have quite extensive XBL records. It's gotten to the point where people say they hate Halo 2 just to say it. It frightens me that people would fake an opinion just to try to "be different".

Plus they were almost exclusively Mac owners. That limits the market enormously.

I also agree with SurgeK here, but not 100%.

As a longtime Bungie fan myself ( ever since Marathon) I cant help but be a little let down by certain parts of Halo2. Dont get me wrong, I love the game. I just dont understand how some things could get worse during 3 years of work. I could list some of these but I doubt anyone cares, since they are subjective.

Bungie can do better. I KNOW they can. That is really why I am somewhat disapointed.

No....I wanna be just like Bungie.
Hey! I know!
I'll create a game that millions fall in love with and then
I'll create a sequel that millions want and I'll get cheap and rip them all off!
BUNGIE SUCKS!!
Halo 2 is a poorly made game and has minimal value to Xbox live.
If you don't have Xbox live, you got ripped off.
This game has not lived up to the hype. period.

Thanx for nothing, Bungie.

Wow. And what was your point?
Yeah I was a fan of Halo. I expected Bungie to deliver a sequel along the same lines as the original (forget parallels to other games, how can you do that?)
It all boils down that Bungie did not live up to what they said they were making.
BUNGIE said the game would be atleast 20 hours long. Name anyone who took 20 hours to beat it?
BUNGIE said this game would be more 'beautiful', yet there are so many rendering problem in the cinematics, it looks thrown together, and not of good quality.
Halo 2 is a gameplayer's nightmare.
And it is hands down a poorly constructed game. It seems the makers were up too long trying to squeeze out as much profit out of this as possible.
Bungie has made a step down in my book.

There were more than a few moments in a halo 2 campaign where I was so impressed with the beauty and game play that I had a hard time believing a group of people made everything I was hearing and seeing. That's all I needed for me to appreciate the game immensely. Also I've been playing Halo 2 on live almost everyday for three or more hours every night. I don't play it because I'm a fanboy. I play the game because I like it...=P. It's not like I'm good or anything either. I don't even win half the games I play.

Anyway, I think people are dissappointed with the game because the full scale earth battle was MIA. All of halo 2's marketing was about saving earth...I can understand why some people are disappointed. They were lead to believe the game would be something other than what it is -- But I don't really care. The storyline is better than the first halo and the action is a lot more intense. Bungie gave me everything I wanted.

I love Halo 2...but multiplayer got boring as I loved doing Big Team CTF and the same 2 levels were chosen every time, Headlong and Zanzibar, I'll probably start playing again soon, right now I'm playing Franchise on NFL 2k5 and can't stop.

Wow, I'm getting some nasty mail about this one. It seems most people think I "have my head up Bungie's ass," that I'm a "M$ PR whore," or some other unflattering obscenities.

My response is this: Some people simply dislike the game due to personal taste. These are not the people I'm referring to in my post. Everyone has the right to not like a game as long as they don''t go around saying how aweful it is. There are games I don't personally enjoy but acknowledge that they're excellent titles regardless. I'm unbiased that way.

The people I am referring to are the ones who dislike the game for the wrong reasons. I've said my piece, you know who you are. If this kind of thing hits so close to home, perhaps you need to rethink your stance on this. I can say with utmost ceretainty that if you hate something because it didn't give you exactly what you expected, that is not a valid opinion. That is selfishness and it is insulting to true fans and the people who made the game.

Bungie did not "mislead" you. They simply witheld all the facts in order to tell a better story. Is that really a bad thing?

They did mislead us a little, but the point is that it isn't a bad thing. Also, I think Stosh is in about the same situation I'm in, except.. probably a little more intense. I really hated Halo: CE's single player, and was impressed with Halo 2's, but only to a certain degree.

I usually don't go on blasting people for their lack of judgement or whatever causes them to be such self-centred crybabies, because generally I don't care.

But I had to step in here because no matter how much you dislike one of their games, you do not insult a company that spent three years putting in 100+ hour work weeks due to your own selfish demands.
