Subject: Disable new member lazy links?

don't take me too seriously..

Every once in a while, theres some people that make new accounts and post lazy links to some sites that people don't really want to see(probably NSFW). An example is the Halo 3 forum where for some reason people blindly click any random link they see without even previewing it..

Maybe new members should have lazy linking abilities disabled in their posts for a certain amount of time. I've also seen in other forums that there has to be a certain post limit members must pass before being able to lazy link.(like 50 quality posts)

just an idea that might be implented into our forums? kthx..

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

I don't think new people should be punished just because of some jerks. Also it's people's own fault if they click on a link before checking what it is in the status bar. And if it's a tinyurl link then don't click it because there is no reason to use tinyurl links here.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

It's really not very hard to hover over the link, then look at what it says in the status bar. Sometimes it's different, when images or sites are named something random, in which case this is a problem.

Maybe you shouldn't be looking at Bungie.net at work? Ironic, seeing as though I'm making this post during my Interactive Media class at school.

Suffice to say, we can't go punishing new members too severely. Most of them have done nothing wrong. Anyway, you can see the URL before you click the link, and that's exactly the same as looking at it before copy-pasting it. I don't see the point.

Just look down there VVVVVV before you click.

Its not hard at all to see what the link is, but some people see

"omg new halo 3 leeked footagee click here"

and their mouse cursor goes straight to it and clicks. How can we protect their fragile little minds? xD

The unfortunate thing is that some people (by that I am indirectly saying me) have Firefox, and have it so loaded with addons, that there is only enough room in the status bar to see "http://ww..." But there are always a way to fix that...

I have to agree with TGP; you can't limit members that much. Bungie wants people to join the forums and eventually buy the game, so they'll have to deal with a couple of bad apples.

TGP, are you in grad school or are you youngish (early 20s)?

Quite true.

I think that the best solution would be this: if someone posts some link, and you have some reason to possibly doubt the content on the other side of that link, simply wait a minute. If it is something that is inappropriate for the site, it will have a few dozen replies within a minute, and you would know not to click it.

Let the other suckers click it first and wait to see if its an ok link? Yeah I do that too..

Sometimes I wait and start seeing posts like "OMFG do not click link!!1! its teh pr0nz." That just happens too often. Usually by new accounts created that same day..

I don't think new members should be punished for a crime they haven't committed. Blacklisting seems to work fine as of right now.

$x='print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x; ';
print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x;

I work at Microsoft. I have nothing to do with Halo and nothing I say is "the official word".
