All around the Bungie.net community people are always yelling at those who post repeat threads shouting "Use the Search Function." Well, most of the time it is very difficult to find threads using the search function.

Right now, it searches the entire thread to find the words you type in. Which means, you could find individual posts from the same thread that take up a million pages of space. While this is nice for finding specific posts, it makes it harder to find threads that are about the same topic. It also searches across the whole entire community, not just one forum.

Are there any improvements in the works? If so, any E.T.A. on when they might become available?

Personally, I would love to see the ability to search a specific forum in addition to the ability to search only thread titles, and perhaps the ability to search for posts within a thread.

Anyone else have some suggestions for improving the Search Function on B.net?

YEAH, PWN THAT FEETUS!

Your suggestions are pretty nice, but I could do without posts within a thread. Many times I post something, that I searched for, that ends up being 'old'.

I don't live on the forums and the handy dandy search button did nothing for me.

Edit: Maybe where if you get many results from the same thread, it should all be filed under one result and you have to click on it to show the other results.

Two words: Advanced Search.

This feature would definitely be useful, which would allow you to search more specifically to your liking.

Here's hoping for the new Hawtness that fast approaches in the horizon.

The Search Function is crap. I can type in my login name & it'll come up with 4000 pages involving the letter "k", or the number "4".

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Ironically, a multitude of threads have been posted here about improving the search feature. Some practice with the search feature will help you get better at using it. For example, I found this thread containing several suggestions for search feature improvements by using the existing search feature.

Of course, that doesn't mean that our search feature works. As always, I still think that the bnet search function should allow the following:

* Boolean operators (and, or, not, within x terms, search specific phrases, and so on)

* Search before, after, or between dates

* Search specific forums, including within group forums

* Search subject and/or search body

* All of the above should be searchable at the same time, or any combination of the above

A tosser is the same as a wanker. To toss oneself off is to fondle the trouser weasel.

Achronos

Joe Staten

The search function is quite confusing.

Haha, and I thought I was original. I did attempt to use the search function but I kept having things come up pre-dating the new hotness, stating how they desired a search function. BTW, those are some good ideas.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Yes, the search feature does have some problems and it could be better.

Achronos has earlier stated that later on in the year (this fall?) that his team may improve the search feature.

With B.net receiving new content around 25th Sept for Halo 3, its possible there will be an updated B.net search included.

I agree. For a company that takes pride in the quality of its tecknology and software and is known for the extent therofe, their search feature has much to be desired. I expect more from bungie. I rerely find what i am looking for when useing it.

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

Yep.. the search is pretty annoying to use. Whenever someone just says "use search" I can't help but wonder if those people themselves have used the search before. I would say the things it needs to be better but that's pretty much been covered already in the thread.

Although the search feature doesn't give the most revelant results, I feel there should be blame on the user who posts the thread. I've seen 5 topics about "Bungie's next game" in the first two pages of the Underground alone. Three of them being on the first page.

People just need to use their eyes and LOOK for the topic they want to discuss.

I think the search feature will be pimped for Halo 3. Bungie knows the issues with the search feature. And I can assure you they are working on it (well. Not at this moment. It's the weekend.) now.

As for feedback like I've said before, the site needs a search like a shopping site. For instance search by: oldest topic, newest, most posted, etc.

Hopefully. It would be amazing if they could find a way for us to search through file share information. Hmm, maybe even a way to search for forge related items, similar to the way they will have the "Bungie Recommends" feature, but let us see all the other content that doesnt make it up there. I know its possible to see your friends and such, but it would be great to be able to just search through the whole community's stuff. Might find that one guy who barely has any friends, but has a million great ideas that are going unnoticed.
