Thoughts on AGP video cards? I don't need to run Halo 2 Vista, but I was just wonder how much better Halo CE could be. (As well as some other games.)

Sorry to bother, but I am having a problem with Halo PC minimizing and then not restoring. It is Halo 1, and this happens right after I start up. Please Help!

Thougts? PCI-E is a lot faster. Period.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

It's called PCI-e, try it.

Any AGP card is obsolete. Save up for a PCI-E

The sad part about agreeing with all of the people who posted above me is that I have an AGP video card on my mobo.

Further analysis on my motherboard indicates that it does have a PCI-E slot; but I didn't realize it at the time I bought my GeForce 6600 AGP.

Hehe, AGP is getting dated now, but it's not so bad that it belongs in the trash. There is an X1900 AGP version, as well as a 7800 AGP version, neither of which are high end, but they are still far above average.

Me too! I bought my GeForce 5600 AGP for $45 (AUD) on Ebay and didn't even realize that my mobo has PCI-e.

And yes, AGP might be getting old, but it is still widely used, so much that video card manufacturers still make cards with AGP interfaces.

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

Actually, you can get hold of (in the UK anyway, so i assume the US too...) a XFX 512Mb 7900GTX XXX Gamer Extreme graphics card, which uses AGP, and that is a VERY powerful card, better than anything below a 320Mb 8800GTS anyway.

And yea, hehe, i still use AGP. Wheazing old 6200 for me XP. It still runs Halo 2 Vista fine though, which i'm grateful for. Runs Halo PC like a dream. I'm waiting for that time where decent PCI-express DX10 graphics cards are i) More common and ii) Less pricey, to go out and spend anything on a new motherboard kit. I may actually upgrade to a 256Mb 7600GT before that happens, it's only cheap here now.

You're going to pay for more, to get less with AGP. The bandwidth limits haven't truly been exceeded for it yet, it's not obsolete in the sense that it's unusable. It's just that few manufacturers make them, and thus sell them at a higher price to a relatively desperate crowd of people who can't replace a mobo or bought a Dell.
