(moved from here )
When thinking about Marathon's enemies, I realized that Hunters exist in both series, just in different forms. The Marathon Hunter was a tall and fearsome creature, able to beat the -blam!- out of you if you got close to it, and worked in groups to kill you with their fearsome arsenal. These guys were often the nightmares of any player below expert mastery of Marathon, on any difficulty.
Halo's Hunters work in pairs, and have the strongest weapons in Halo built into their armor, like Marathon's. Also, they are similarly tough, and can cause many a problem, though they seem a bit weakened.

Any thoughts?

I've been thinking of writing a corollary article to the one Matt Soelle wrote so long ago. Maybe I should. =)

Also, the Zeus Class Fusion Pistol was effective against
them. (Correct me if I'm wrong) If you find early screens
of Marathon you'll notice it was called the Plasma Pistol.

Well, the 10th anniversary of Marathon's release is coming up in December this year...

Maybe after Halo 2 we could have an article showing something along the lines of a compare and contrast thingy. Or something. To see how much has changed after ten years, or whatever.

I would enjoy that. I commonly refer to marathon as the grandaddy of halo.
•Rocket launchers carry 2 missles at once
•Duel wielding (as of halo 2)
•Enemy are aliens....(duh)
•never see face of the character.
•capable of picking up alien weapons (only one in marathon tho)
•BOB's (marathon equivelant of marines) will shoot you if you kill enough of them.
•A secret race, forget the names tho.
I'll think of more later

Taken from HBO

* SPNKr: the name, the double barrels, the legend
* The Fusion and Plasma pistol's similar overcharge functions
* Cortana, of the same temper as Durandal
* The HUD Radar: 15 metres of danger!
* The Assault Rifles: Marathon's MA-75B to Halo's MA-5B, and that they are both akin to wrestling a greased pig...
* Foe Hammer: Infinity level name to dropship pilot Carol Rawley
* Marathon-class cruiser designation mentioned in Halo: The Fall of Reach (p.238)
* Hunters: name and swanky good looks
* Bulletin board on the Pillar of Autumn: reference to the M1 level Colony Ship For Sale, Cheap

* Human Crew outfits: similar styles and colour coding as BOBs (Hey, where's Engineering Green? :)
* The Mjolnir Mk IV cyborg to Mjolnir Mk V/VI suits
* Suits much like the Mark IV used during a Spartan infiltration in TFoR (p.79)
* Wellsley's simulation of the Battle of Marathon in Halo: The Flood
* Cybernetic-eyed BOBs and the one-eyed monitors of the UNSC Marine helmets
* Covenant torches as found on Two Betrayals bear a slight resemblance to the Pfhor staff
* Game Dialogue:
o "They're everywhere!" and variations - Marines, Crewmen, and Grunts

Ach! Was ist los?

Here's one NOT found on HBO: The Mega class vs. the M6D.

Both are large-caliber, heavily-built handguns with scopes. Admittedly, the scope on the Mega class didn't do anything, but the similarity is striking.

There's also the overall feel of the games.

Yes, and another thing I was thinking about: Similarities between the halo rings and the Jjaro space stations from Infinity. They were both cratered by an all knowing but long gone super race, and they were both designed to contain some sort of apocalyptic being: in Halo's case the flood, and in Infinities case the W'rkncacnter. However, the Jjaro space station seemed built to specifically prevent the release of the W'rkncacnter, in this case coused by the Pfhor nuking Lh'owon and its sun with the trih xeem. At the end of "Aye Mac Sicur" we learn that “You've done it. The jjarro station is online, and we're wrapping the nova in its containment fields…”
Yet, the halo(s) are seamed built as more of a “prison” for the flood, although they (the halos) do have that nasty little ability to wipe out all life in the universe (supposedly in an attempt to keep the flood from spreading.)

OmGZoRZ mb in both the
games in the first level (marathon 1) your ship is under attack by the aliens?>?

Let's just face it: Bungie will always try to sneak in both obvious and inconspicuous symbols of Marathon into their games. As both the Covenant and the Phor enslave races and try to expand their dominion, we also see similar enemies: simple staff Phor with Grunts, Elites with cloaked S'pht (as both races come in different varieties, and can be cloaked or obvious), Brutes with the cybernetic droids in Marathon 2 (that shoot grenades at you and drive around)... and I'm out of names of Marathon enemies that I can remember.

Bungie has built in color designations into their enemies, if you notice... the Phor, S'pht, Hunters... they all have different coloration which separates them, much like Halo enemies.

You will get to spend much time playing both games if you want to find the comparisons... personally, I'm going to get my brother to send back his Marathon CDs so I can use them on OS Classic... and Halo on OS X.
