Hi! I have recently bought Halo 2 PC and enjoyed the single-player campaign. However I have a serious promblem with 'Windows live'. In fact I live in Greece and when I go to join Live it gets me to a site that says: 'The live service is not available in your region.'. I can't understand this-I have a fast Internet connection, I bought this game and it sais it isn't available. What sort of service is that can't be available in the 80% of the world (only in 15-20 countries is available-the most rich ones). I din't have such promblems with other games -always I could play. What is the advantage of Windows live? All of the characteristics of live are offered by all other games without limitations.
If someone knows what is going on-because I din't bought the game only for singleplayer- please reply. Also if someone knows where I can find when and if the live will be available here (Greece) ,let me know too.

Note:The Windows live is an expansion of Xbox-live so anything that concerns the availability of Xbox live concerns 'Windows live' also.

That's just Microsoft giving you the finger. I'm sorry, but i don't think there's anything you can do aside from moving to another country.

OMG! I don't have a date for the Promblem!

Anyways, how do you know it's Microsoft that won't allow Live in Greece? Doesn't Greece have very strict laws regarding online gambling and the internet in general? Maybe you should try doing some research as to why Xbox/Windows Live isn't available in your country before tossing in the "I hate Microsoft" card.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Can I toss in my card since I'm now denied playing because I INSTALLED HALO 2 ONCE TOO MANY TIMES? Microsoft is -blam!-, and I have all the right in the world to hate their software and their policies of treating customers like criminals.

To the OP, Microsoft never changes or improves anything, so give up on Halo 2 like I have.

That's not true node, you can install halo 2 as many times as you want, it's just the third time you need to call. Stupid, yes I know, but it's just like windows and I am sure everyone is used to that garbage.

As I said before ,only 15-20 countries have the 'live' available and these countries are the most rich. So it is obvious that they aren't the laws but Microsoft policy. In the requirements it says:''LIVE is not available to all countries, please go to www.xbox.com and select your country details.'' I went there and there was a text in Greek language with all the 'advantages' of the windows live!! I didn't found anything about the availability of Live. So Microsoft writes in the Greek language the advantages of live although live isn't available here. Why you think Microsoft does this??

Who said to you that here in Greece we have strict laws about internet? In China they do. Here we are controlled (concerning Internet) less than in the U.S.. The only promblem with Internet here is that is more expensive.-just that. Also, I have played many other games in multiplayer. Why this demands 'live'? Why our laws permit other games and not this-In fact here all games are permitted.

I suggest you e-mail them with your country and the name of your city/town/suburb, whatever it is, and ask if Live is available in your area.

I found this with a 30 second Google search.

http://aceybongos.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!34EFB79E92974FD2!4 205.entry

Take five minutes to read that. It explains a lot. So as I've stated previously, it may not be Microsoft that's denying the country of Greece Xbox/Windows Live. Maybe your backwards political leadership decided not to deal with Microsoft.

Also XBL isn't available to 15-20 of the richest countries. Please go do your research. XBL/GFWL is available in 37 countries including Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Slovakia, and Sri Lanka. I'm sure several ov those countries are not in the top 15-20 richest.

I read this and thanks for the search but I can't believe Microsoft. Greece is one of the western 'free' countries that rarely forbids things like that. In fact I have never heard about something like that- (Greek goverment forbids a game due to its content). Our goverment hasn't any reason to complain about the content of the game-(single player has the same content). Also as I said many other games have exactly the same content and the multiplayer 'runs' freely. Maybe is another reason that Microsoft doesn't procced and unfortunately I don't know. Our goverment was strict at the decades of 50,60,70 but not now.
Also what does Microsoft means with all these contacts-license...Until now things worked differently and now they change-you must pay additional money for gold account, not all countries have availability.Do you really believe that the rest countries those that don't have live -forbid it or they don't want to sign contracts? If Microsoft really wanted all world to have the availability of playing online games then the XBL wouldn't expand to PCs as GFWL. I think that all these contacts have economical reasons that they don't procced not political.

Concerning the counties that live is available I have found a list when I was trying to join live and I saw about 15-20 countries but I read the names of only few of them because I was in a hurry. I remember that Germany was in the list(!!! even if this text says some things about the non-availability of live in Germany) . Anyway I din't see all the country names in that list and you maybe right about that but I still have the question.

IIRC Greece banned all forms of online gambling with the future possibility of banning all online use in public places. I'm sure that doesn't have any bearing on XBL or GFWL, but the content of the game shouldn't matter. It's XBL and GFWL that's the real point. Some countries don't have the service because they don't have enough of an infrastructure to support it. Some just didn't want to enter into a contract with Microsoft for whatever reason. I sincerley doubt that Microsoft would just up and say "Ok, so greece, Kerplakistan, and the United Kingdom of Wherever can't have XBL or GFWL cuz we said so."

So whatever the reason may be it's most likely due to your political leadership's decision making, or the countries main Internet Service Provider.

I just hate it when people go and automatically start hating on Microsoft without justification. I like Microsoft products. I'm using several right now, and I've been mostly satisfied with their products. I say mostly because I've had problems with the old Windows 95/98 platforms. But right now the quality of their products are excellent.

And Tui, i'm from the UK, we have better Internet networking than the US (on average, not in some places).

My mistake, I meant to say after the third install.

Obi-wan isnt from the US by the way. Of course I don't know why you would say the UK has better internet networking when the average speed is lower than the US and Canada.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

True, but we would all be -blam!-ed if all the averages were made with my internet provider! :(

Thanks for clarifying that while I was away slaving under a frenchman :P

No offense to any Yanqui's, but I'm not American and I'm god-damn proud of it!

Well put it this way, it's not uncommon to see 8Mbit connections in houses, and up to 32Mbit connections are possible. I get 7.4Mbit connection speed, however i do live in the middle of nowhere so, heh understandable. From the sounds of it in the US, unless you live in a city, you're looking at 2Mbit if you're LUCKY.

I don't know how these things work -everyone from Greece that I asked don't know why live isn't available. I just can't accept that we don't have enough infastacture to support it: I believe that if someone has Internet connection and the game he can play multi-I may be wrong but I believe this. I don't know whether is Microsoft's promblem or goverments or limitations- I know that I don't have live available-don't mind I will do something else to kill my time.
