The ninjas can not and will not do anything about the article. Why? Because it is not in their hands. It isn't in our hands either.

Let's just try to end it by saying that the guy made a very stupid mistake and should have used better diction.

I wrote a quick little response to the writer, I'll just share it with you guys since I'm sure you all feel the same way.

Not only is your article poorly written, it's completely false and borderline offensive. The video game industry surpasses any other form of entertainment at the moment. How does a "Multibillion-dollar game-console market" thrive so well on an "alienated" and "lonely" subculture? Perhaps it's a massive subculture? Given that you've completely contradicted yourself in an attempt to bash something simply because you have no understanding of it. Let me give you an idea of what this subculture is really like. My g/f and I live together in Southern California, we both work full time and go to school part time. We invite friends over every weekend and occasionally take trips together as we are very outgoing people. We also enjoy playing Xbox Live on a nightly basis. We have two Xbox's, one in our room and another in the game room. The fact that we enjoy video games has in no way alienated us from others or damaged our social life. In fact I can say it's actually strengthened it. Many of our friends and co-workers play along with us in addition to the many people we meet online from all over the world. So in conclusion, im sure a lonely writer like yourself could benefit from an Xbox Live experience. We live in a technological age, quit alienating yourself from it.

He'll probably never even see it, but oh well....im just sick of this stereotypical view of gamers.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Really guys? I've come to grips with my nerdom, it really doesn't bother me.

Become the hunter.

I don't see why you are all up in arms about it, it wasn't offensive. They only used "Geek Ghetto" for the sake of alliteration. Besides, the vast amjority of people don't know what the seventh column is. It said "The cliche about gamers is that they're antisocial, if not sociopathic, but Bungie is very much a community." That is not saying all gamers are losers, but that the cliche is untrue and that it's a community (which woudn't be possible with a bunch of sociopaths). It portrayed Halo in a very positive light.

If you're reading and posting on the forums and haven't come to terms with at least a little bit of your nerd-dom, then you're in for a rude awakening one of these days.

‮‮Awesax

I think the article is a disgrace. It blatantly states that "He [the Master Chief] never takes off his helmet.]. This is clearly not the case. The Master Chief does remove his helmet in Halo: Combat Evolved. This statement is completely outrageous.

Mr X R X, I like you much so.

  • 09.11.2007 7:06 AM PDT

bungie has proven that a bunch of monkeys sitting in front of keyboards can randomly type out a masterpiece. the thing is, when you go to play the masterpiece, you cant help but notice all the monkey s**t smeared all over it.

it gets real old having to wait months for someone like mlg to clean off all the monkey poo.

i read the entire time magazine article, and its not as bad as the original poster thought it was.
yes, the Time author said gaming was on the fringe of society, and that halo 3 had a chance to make gaming socially credible, both horribly worded points on his part. Gaming is no longer something done by children, for the past decade the gaming community has had significant populations of people aged 5 to 30, making a very broad range of Americas population. however, there are gamers and HARDCORE gamers, i would assume most if not all people on this forum are hardcore gamers, and us hardcore gamers would make up a fringe part of society. halo has already made gaming socially acceptable, the author is at least 5 years too late to say a flagship game is needed to introduce gaming to the outer community. i can remember back in my high school days people having lans and talking about crazy happenings in halo, and in college i have daily conversations about the next game coming out or how much bull crap happened in a recent round of halo. however the outer world still exists, i don't talk about video games with everyone because there still is a significant population (constantly decreasing) that doesn't care about a ten minute long discussion of the nub combo, who dont grasp the concept of why you need 2 joysticks, and buttons on a controller. such a discussion wouldn't relate to them.

the author's mistake was not realizing there are more copies of halo 2 floating around then there are time subscriptions to time, and that all of us younger halo fans can beat up all of his old crusty Time fans. If any Time fans wants to dispute this then i encourage him and any of his friends to meet me outside any gamestop at midnight on september 25, and we will see which group has the majority of people and is therefore the more mainstream.

also, wtf with Time calling Bungie "bungies"?

Because it's exclusive to the Xbox 360, Halo 2 is also Microsoft's weapon of choice in its struggle with Sony for supremacy in the multibillion-dollar game-console market.
Huh?

Other than that, I didn't find much to be offended over or concerned.

Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

"for a "best" moral to exist, there must exist the "best" moral base. If the base of morality varies from location to location, culture to culture...then there can't be an absolute moral..

The mere fact that so many people are a upset about the article lends merit to that feeling. They are not wrong any more than the people who say that the article doesn't bother them are wrong.

no, this is weak for a number of reasons. for one, this is fallacious and merely appealing to authority (in this case the masses). and, as foman and every other forum regular knows, people in the forums moan and cry about EVERYTHING. heck, i may be mistaken, but i would not be surprised if threads dedicated to whining about bungie letting people see h3 in IMAX for free had as much attention in this thread.

in any case, i suspect that nobody is actually upset about the comments made in the article. we should all be happy that h3 is getting so much mainstream media attention. the more attention it gets, the more players there will be, and h3 mm will have freaking humongous numbers of players eager to play many gametypes. i would be surprised and shocked if any posters in the forums actually get sad or angry about this kind of thing. EVERY SINGLE DAY we read others post stuff about halo and halo players that we disagree with. but, unlike our forums, 'TIme' has a readership that is not insanely biased and quick to judge others so harshly.

They pretty much called the whole gaming community a bunch of loner geeks that have nothing better to do with their lives.

One reason why I hate time magazines and other media which is whining about playing video games is that.
