How important is it to you to be good at one on one matches? I ask this because a lot of people seem to brag about how well they can do in them, or how they owned some guy in a one on one match...

Personally,I don't really like one on one matches all that much. I also don't think winning them is important because many times (on smaller maps) it becomes a campfest after somebody has a sword/shotgun. I will admit, I don't think I am all that good (I've only played one and went 24-25 after starting off 0-5...), but I would think this even if I were great.

What do all of you think?

They're important, no matter what any body says. But they're only a fraction of your true skill. In order to be good you must excel in, not only, 1v1 matches, but 2v2's,3v3's,4v4',etc... And there also must be a variation of slayer and objective.

1v1 Lockout proves nothing is for MM kids at level 25.

  • 09.04.2007 10:28 PM PDT

I would say one on ones are superfluous because one of the two players can simply whore the power weapons and make it a one sided match.
(example): One player camping the BR tower on Lockout with the Sniper Rifle and Sword (or Shotgun).

What he said^^ Who ever gets the best weapons first usually wins.

I'm pretty good at 1v1s. They're not a true test of skill, but they do show some skill. If it didn't show some skill I wouldn't be able to beat everyone in these forums in a 1v1.

Seriously, 4v4 team games show more skill than one on one. They show your ability to handle being outnumbered, effective communication, etc...

I mean, sure, 1v1 matches prove SOMETHING, but not on Lockout. The map isn't really even. Two people going at it on a perfectly symmetrical map, both with BRs, both with a great connection is fair. Host and/or the Sniper Rifle on lockout with so many turns and levels isn't all great. It's further proving Luck and Chance is a huge factor in Halo 2.

Prove me wrong "pros".

i dont like 1v1 matches too much. I am better with a full team. i dont even do double team well. I like to have a full team to spread around the map so i can shoot someone across the map and have a teammate there to finish it.

Why does every complete nobody on these forums think they are good? Thats the cockiest most ignorant thing I've ever read, nobody thinks your good at 1v1, nobody cares if you are, and nobody wants to hear you try to brag about yourself. Nice try on being a forum cool guy though

Oh noes, don't say that...
Done DL is the best person I have ever played against...
He is really cool, once you get to know him.
He is very good at 1 v 1. I like playing with him though even when I lose.

1v1 is fun. I occasionally get challenged by horrible kids and win, but other than that, its really fun to play with friends.

Im always up for 1v1s, even if Im losing badly. Its not a reason to quit, it makes you a loser even more.

They don't really prove anything because it's not about skill. It's about whoever can go get a power weapon first and camp with it. (If you're playing on Lockout, which is where most kids like to play) But if you're on Warlock it's about whoever can stay at top of the platforms and control the camo.

Lol, if you think 31 is an impressive rank or if rank matters at all no wonder you get wrecked. He plays mostly skirmish gametypes, of course he can have a decent K/D ratio (which doesn't prove anything either)

Greatest of all time

1 v 1 is the way that a jerk on the losing team justifies his losses in an MM game. That is of course unless he loses.

For example, we win 50-21. Mr. Jerk says, "YOU ONLY ONE BECAUSE YOU WHORED POWER WEAPONS AND MY TEAMMATES SUCK! I WILL OWN YOU IN A 1V1." Then if he loses, he usually quits before he loses (like if its 13-4), when he wins he acts like hes the best player ever. I always win 1v1 matches against people like this.

But to those who are insulting Done DL, he is amazing at 1v1.

1v1 can be usefull, but only when the weapons on map are set correctly and you have a good map to play on. Also connection has alot to do with it when one person can 4 shot and the other needs 5 because of lag.

it doesnt show that ur good or bad u could be having an off day and u might not relize it. so i think 1v1 matches r just a waste of time

Oh look, its one of those awesome people who pretends that what he has to say is immensely more important than what anyone else has to say.

1v1's are NOT important. Of course, realistically, NO game of Halo is ACTUALLY important, but even within the confines of the game, 1v1's mean nothing. The other day, I was challenged to 3 1v1's after 3 seperate Rumble Pit games which I had won. The people challenging me had all finished in either 5th, 6th, or 7th. Two of them beat me. Does this mean they are better than me? No. It means that they can use a BR better than me. They were terrible snipers. They whored the sword and camped snipe tower - yeah, it was POSSIBLE to kill them, and I did a few times, but don't even try to say thats a fair game right there.

Anyone who has beaten me in 1v1, I can beat in a REAL game of Halo. A great 1v1 player is usually (not always, but usually) a bad team player. Button glitches only get you so far in a real game of Halo, and I for one am damn sick and tired of being called a noob because I can't defend a quadshot to the face. Big blamming deal, you can press buttons quickly.

While I own one on ones most of the time, its still pretty much a host gametype.
