Freedom of Speech does not equal "Freedom from Consequences when one speaks".
It is a right, and all rights have responsibilities associated with them. Ignore the responsibility, and you tend to lose the right.

when you think about the fact that pretty much 70 percent of high school students in my area have smoked weed at some point, and about half to those still smoke weed, and others use god knows what else kinda drugs, you'd think the fact that im clean and always have been, and i havnt failed any grades yet is one HELL of an achievement in itself. i think theres 1200 students in my high school, and about 800 smoke weed and/or cigs. you would THINK the fact that im one of those good 400 that dont would make her trust me.
but nope. every time i bring up these points she says "NOT OPEN TO NEGOTIATION"
I'm sorry, you're not going to like my opinion. I have to side with your mother on this. In fact, I hope she reads this thread, because I have something to say to her: "Mom, thank you for caring enough about your son and other children to understand, actively monitor, and limit the things that you are!"
The things you claim make you so mature, i.e., not smoking weed and haven't failed any grades, is an extremely poor argument. Is this the standard you use to quantify your success as a student? If so, you need to aim a little higher!
The Halo series games are rated M, and I understand parents will make judgment calls about purchasing it for younger children. However, this rating DOES NOT apply in the same way to XBL, and I wish more parents understood this. Most believe that they are simply allowing their children to play the game with friends over the Internet, and don't understand that by allowing their children to mix with older kids they're exposing them to racism, language, and behavior that is NOT appropriate for young kids. It's not the game, it's the unsupervised mix of age groups that's not healthy for young people.
I'm older than your mom is, and I know you will appreciate her someday more than you do today. I know *I* appreciate her, because there are sadly few mothers these days that care as much as she does about her children. Truth be known, you are limiting the growth and development of certain areas of your brain by spending so much time at the computer or on Live. You should be balancing your free time by perhaps playing a musical instrument, playing sports, reading for enjoyment, etc. Since you're just turning 16, maybe your mom can ask you to help share the load of chores around the house too, and continue along the path to becoming a young adult.
