Subject: Does Halo 2 work on live on the 360?

Ok I just got a 360 for Halo 3 and I wanted to know if Halo 2 works over Live on an Xbox 360? Anybody know?

You have to go into your 360's parental options and set it so you can play old xBox games on Live first, though.

Ok, got it. Thanks.

Actually, mine isn't working, I don't know why. I've tried 2 different disks, but as soon as I select Xbox Live it says it can't connect and gives the option to launch the troubleshooter. Now Gears of War works on Live, and I thought I downloaded the update for Halo 2, but it just won't connect. When I try to change family settings, it says no child account detected, so that can't be it. Is it because I'm using that free 1 month trial of Live Gold?

Probably. When did you sign up for the trial of Gold? Obviously if it was a month ago, it wont work anymore. If it was recently though, it should work.

  • 09.05.2007 5:11 PM PDT

Yeah I just activated it yesterday actually. But why would Gears of War work and Halo not work?

Read Great Pretender's post. Gears of War is a 360 game. Halo 2 isn't. You have to go into the settings and make sure you can play backwards compatible games.

Uh I was on the phone for an hour because of this problem and it turned out that the last option the guy had in mind was that one.

I know it's not a 360 game, but since I'm over 18 there isn't really a child account or parental controls there, although last time I checked I didn't see anything that would limit backwards compatible games. The kid next door in my dorm is a nerd (not meant as an insult) and even he's stumped by it. We've gone through all the settings and haven't found anything obvious.

Skyraider, I'm having the same problem. I sign onto Live fine, but then attempt to get onto Halo 2 to play online, and it comes up with the troubleshooter. I run it, and everything checks out fine. I can sign in and out of Live fine on the Dashboard. I don't understand the problem... like you I cannot find the "enable original Xbox games" section, either. I have Xbox Live Gold, and am completely positive it has not expired. I have tried Gears of War online, and it has worked. I download videos. It doesn't make sense... And Halo 2 doesn't automatically try to make me download maps either, and I don't know where to get those besides when it prompts you to. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this at all?

BUMP

don't make me keep doing this til it gets solved. Doesn't anybody else have this problem or a solution? Maybe I should set up a little kid account so I can access parental settings - not.

skyraider, i was having the same problem but now it is fixed. the only thing i did different was use a router between the modem and the 360. so yeah, just try a router or hub and it could work possibly. I may not know what I'm talking about really, but it's worked ever since I used a router
