i think you'll find the common trend is actually for people to use the "you've no skill" argument as a stock defense, because it's easier than confronting the truth that Bungie thinks you're a bunch of cheats :D

edit: i saw a post that claimed Bungie should go on the record and state button glitches are not unfair (thus no longer making them a cheat) but that's like the police making -blam!- legal in order to drop crime rate figures......

The main problem i have is that Halo is about bright colours, plasma weapons and the golden triangle. MLG reduces Halo to a Counter Strike wannabe, which, if i wanted to play i'd buy a shooter that was more based in reality rather than play a crippled sci-fi epic.

How is playing with nothing but one weapon for hours on end skillfull? You need to be good with any weapon, any vehicle and in any situation to be a true pro. Not MLG's bul-blam!- NOTHING BUT BR AND NO VEHICLES!

edit: I dislike MLG mainly because they think they're better than everyone else. (and i think their gametypes are boring)

The argument here is that we're not allowed to dislike MLG rules, the moment we voice our opinion our skill level is brought into the argument and that's just silly. I love to play Halo the way it was intended, and for that I’m chastised by a bunch of arses with delusions of grandeur.....

exactly!

so no more bringing our skill levels into the equation when we decide we don't like MLG rules, there is no right or wrong, just personal opinion. I have nothing against people that want to play MLG rules, just don't flame me for not liking them myself

:D

Agreed. Usually the people that don't like MLG don't play it very often, so they're not as good at it as someone who likes MLG. That's why most people that hate MLG aren't that good at it.

I think people dont like the BR because of their skill with it.

MLG is different. Most people dont like it because they BXR and they think that the MLG players think there a whole lot better than them, which they are.

but don't make baseless claims about something especially if you don't know much about it. That's all I ask.

the only baseless claim here is that anti-MLGs are without skill

Not everyone that doesn't play it is bad. Just a lot. I left that 1% margin for error. :)

So what????? Do you really care so much you have to whine about it on a gameforum???

he means better as in Better human beings, not Halo players. MLG players think they are better then anyone they meet for any reason.

also, I am 100% against glitching on XBL, but I couldnt give half a -blam!- what MLG do in their tourneys. and if anyone says "because you suck at Halo and you cant do them" your wrong because I can double shot BXR BXB etc and even quad shot with abit more practice. but they are not what make you a skilled Halo player, what does is. Tactics, Accuracy, teamwork. Glitching is in none of those catagories

Glitches would be tactics but I understand what you're saying. Most people do think MLG players can only glitch and BR which is a lie. Without the key basic skills of teamwork, strategy, communication, awareness, etc. they'd be nothing. Just the same as anyone who plays default settings or more casual games. MLG players are no different than anyone else except the games we play. I just wish the rest would get it through their heads.
bull -BLAM- those are not tactics, those are just cheap tricks they have to use, and then give the excuse that they are tactics

though the bxb is actualy quite useless, if your too fast, you will cancel out the attack before it hits, if your too slow, you might as well have waited till the attack was over, then just done another(though if you have ever seen somone bxb a plasma pistol into the air, it looks like they are on crack)

I'll give you my take on the "MLG" issue, based upon many games in MM, and also what I've read here on the Forum. There's no question that once MLG is mentioned in a thread, it becomes a magnet for all kinds of hate and anger.

I think it boils down to two main issues, stemming from the fact that MLG has a real PR problem. I'm not saying that all those who participate in MLG are like this, but the VOCAL ones, here and in MM, are argumentative, incredibly arrogant, and trash talk something fierce when they win a game in MM. They are hated to the same degree as KSI, and for largely some of the same reasons.

I know MLG players are generally more skilled than most other players, but once you reach a certain arbitrary subset of skills, the only thing that continues an individual's continued rank upwards is a superior connection, teamwork and button-glitching, some or all of which MLG players use or have. Now, button-glitching is fine for LANs, customs, and tournaments, but the problem is that MLG players (and others as well) use these techniques in MM. Forgive me for using caps, but I would like to emphasize this: THERE IS NO AGREEMENT AHEAD OF TIME WITH ALL PLAYERS, THAT BUTTON-GLITCHES ARE OK IN MM. There is only one reason to use button-glitches, and that's to gain an advantage over an opponent. Against someone not employing their use, this advantage is unfair if it is not understood/agreed upon that glitching in that game is acceptable.

Also, if confronted with the issue that glitching is illegal according to Bungie's rules, MLG players again become argumentative, claim that the only people who complain have "no skill", or say that, "MLG says they're OK." Again, not endearing themselves to other gamers.

Another argument I hear from MLG gamers is that they only use glitches "three or four times per game". Well, if you do the math, if there are one or two MLG players on a team against others in MM who AREN'T, that equals a win by at least somewhere between four and eight points. Such a small advantage is all it takes, but certainly doesn't give a player the right to trash talk someone else who chooses to play a game by rules given by the game designer.

I'll be so glad in a few days when H3 is here. Yes, MLG will play H3, but much of the advantages they enjoyed in H2 will be gone, and many players will get a HUGE reality check. Maybe not all of them are as good as they thought they were?

EDIT: typos

one of my key Halo skills is tactics, and when someone BXR's me when I plan my assault long before I come to face them. and anyone who says they dont rely on glitchs and only use them when nessersary(sp) is a load of crap, they use them all the time. for example, "I only use BXR or Double shot when Im at a disadvantage" well, you shouldnt put yourself at that disadvantage by using real tactics via engaging first and retreating when you need to.

RIP Halo 2.

Not to be rude, but the extremely large majority of anti-BR, anti-MLG, and anti-button glitching kids are all bad at this game.

well, I must be part of the minority

also, although this will sound like a childish rebuttle, many MLG, BR, Button glitcher's are smart arse trash talker's who think they are better then everyone who doesnt glitch etc

Not to be rude, but so what if they are? Don't they deserve to be able to play games at their own level just like eveyone else? Claiming that a certain group of players are "all bad at this game" marks you as an antagonist, and obviously not helpful.

anti-MLG players are always saying use tactics and strategy, but most of them don't know any map strats. and if you don't know how to counter a bxr then you need to start playing with good people. the glitchs are there, nobody will ban you. they just keep you alive.
