Having a linked Gamertag doesn't mean anyone is a bigger fan of anything. It just means that you can be contacted on bungie.net in addition to xbox live.

It would be cool to have a seperate "Bungie.net logo behind the gamertag" for active forum members, but hey, I'm not really complaining. ;)

I'm tired of people who link their gametag just because they think it makes them a Bungie fan and/or cool. I know some poeple who think they're insane bungie fans but have only played Halo 2 and didnt even know a about the Halo 3 beta, what Marathon is and don't even go on any Bungie related website monthly. Infact one of them thinks halo 3 is out. I think the linked gametag in should be reserved for people who are true fans and If you haven't posted in a few months, the link should be removed.

I know theres probably a flaw or problem with this that someone will point out.

So just because you decide to stop posting on a forum that means you don't like bungie games. Right?

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

No offense, but just because you registered on the website does not mean you are any more of a fan of the game. It just means you registered on the website. Its bad enough as it is with levels and ranks to divide the community and create bragging rights.

I'm not opinionated, I'm just always right.

This is almost as bad as "I deserve a special gamertag for playing in the beta!"

That is like saying I should be considered a bigger fan than you because I've been here since 2004 and you've been here since 2006.

Louis Wu has only posted 21 times ever on Bungie.net. Thus, your idea must fail.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

You can't define someone who is a "true fan". Many people have far too much to do regarding careers, school, family, etc to spend as much time as other people on Bungie.net, yet they love Halo dearly. On the contrary, many people like it, but only come on the forums to participate in The Flodd discussion (nothing wrong with that, only just pointing out it's non-Halo discussion).

Frankly, you can't judge a member on number of posts or quantity of hours spent on the site. Nor can you do it by how much Halo swag they own. If you establish some hard line to determine whether someone is or not, there's always going to be a group whose right on the poor side of the line, and who'll claim they deserve to be recognized as true fans.

It's a vicious game of compromises; one no one can really win.

Anyone and Everyone who likes Halo is a true fan. Anyone stopping this isn't a fan. Simple as that. Just because they don't post doesn't make them any less of a fan. If they want to link their gamertag, then they own the game making them fans.

  • 09.09.2007 5:22 PM PDT

Okay, maybe by posts isnt the best way of doing this, but I'll tired of people don't give a damn about Bungie linking their gamertag becasue they think its cool.

You're acting like it's a pandemic. Relax, it's no less important than rank, which is in itself irrelevent.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Unlike the (apparent) majority of the posters in this thread, I agree with your general idea. I wish that there was a way to show that you are actually a Bungie fan. The current Bungie.net logo thing is utterly useless. It doesn't tell you anything because most people just set it up and forgot about Bungie.net, unless they come back here to check their stats. Either way, it doesn't mean much.

Also, being a Halo fan does not make you a Bungie fan. That makes you a fan of one of their games (or, now, one of their game series'). There's more to it than that. The problem is, stating exactly what that "more" is is basically impossible. Once you come up with some criteria, you could think of an example that would show it to be wrong.

Which is where the other posters here have got it right. Posting on B.net isn't a good enough criteria for being a Bungie fan. So I wouldn't be in favor of implementing your plan.

Quite obviously, you are not as big of a fan as I am. My post count has about a few thousand digits over your post count AND I've been signed up and visiting here 3.1 years longer. In my opinion, you are not a true, nor a long time fan and should therefore have the bungie.net logo stripped from your gamertag.

The point is, it is not really anyone's place to set down the criteria for being a "true fan".

LMAO

What a ridiculous idea. For one, prizing how much of a fan you consider yourself to be and attributing greater worth to yourself because of it is... well, I don't think pathetic is too strong a word. Secondly, it is extremely mean-spirited and utterly petty to want to deny benefits available to everyone based on your own valuation of this worth. And thirdly, the cut-off point is arbitrary, selfish and can be argued by everyone - everyone who ever suggests an idea like this conveniently places the bar somewhere just below themselves. Any criteria you set for admission into this little club can also be applied - with equal validity, as ash55 demonstrates above - by someone who rates even higher than you to exclude you as well.

I can't begin to explain how petty and self-congratulatory I find your idea.

Inside the Mind of Halotitan Help me get expand my mind.

How would you define a true fan? Someone who doesn't play the game all that often, nor has been able to come here and post a thousand posts on b.net. Someone who's oblivious to the fact that bungie was releasing a beta. If that is so then you've just labeled someone who obviously has a life and they themselves would assume that they're better than you. I think you can be a true fan of things, even when you're not always there to back it up or participate in things. I disagree with your argument and think that anyone who comes here should be allowed to access the Bungie.net link.

Fun Fact: I instinctively reached for the "Unleash Ninjas" button after reading this post.

The functionality is there because it's cool, not to stroke the ego of random forum posters.

lol

I also find the OP's term "true fan" funny, way too subjective of a term. A person can be a true fan without coming here 24/7 or not knowing about other Bungie games before Halo. If someone is inspired enough to link up their gamertag because they want to give Bungie props for making one of their favorite games, what's wrong with that?

How do you define a "true fan"?

Easy, in Bungie terms, a true fan is someone who has slept with Frankie.

You know who the true fans are? The people who'll go out and pay £40, €60 $60 or whatever for the game. Yeah, all six or seven odd million of them.
