Having a linked Gamertag doesn't mean anyone is a bigger fan of anything. It just means that you can be contacted on bungie.net in addition to xbox live.

yup.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

You know who the true fans are? The people who'll go out and pay £40, €60 $60 or whatever for the game. Yeah, all six or seven odd million of them.

Ah! Conflicting monetary symbols! Abort! Abort!

Anyone and Everyone who likes Halo is a true fan. Anyone stopping this isn't a fan. Simple as that. Just because they don't post doesn't make them any less of a fan. If they want to link their gamertag, then they own the game making them fans.

I agree with you. Just because someone doesn't have a link to the account for XBL doesn't make them any less of a fan. Some people don't know how to do it actually.

You can't define someone who is a "true fan". Many people have far too much to do regarding careers, school, family, etc to spend as much time as other people on Bungie.net, yet they love Halo dearly. On the contrary, many people like it, but only come on the forums to participate in The Flodd discussion (nothing wrong with that, only just pointing out it's non-Halo discussion).

Frankly, you can't judge a member on number of posts or quantity of hours spent on the site. Nor can you do it by how much Halo swag they own. If you establish some hard line to determine whether someone is or not, there's always going to be a group whose right on the poor side of the line, and who'll claim they deserve to be recognized as true fans.

It's a vicious game of compromises; one no one can really win.

This ladies and gents, sums the issue up perfectly. As much as many of us would like we can't all devote hours upon hours scouring B.net and buying Bungie branded merchandise. Many of us ARE husbands, wives, and parents. Other things do indeed take precedence sometimes, but I know speaking on my behalf I'm a huge, raving, lunatic of a Bungie fan. It's hard for some people to put levels of fandom into perspective when they themselves have no other responsibilities.

How do you define a "true fan"?

Easy, in Bungie terms, a true fan is someone who has slept with Frankie.

That's pretty broad. I'd say it would be better to narrow the field to only the people who bought the game.

Is a true fan someone who plays Halo 2 on XBL for 4 hours every day, or someone who plays Halo 1 on the PC every few days, but hangs around the forums anyway?
Because I am that second guy.

Linking a GT on this site is a feature that shouldn't be restricted from anyone. Why does it matter to you who does and doesn't link their GT? I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "I'm cool cause my GT is linked on Bungie.net".
Dude seriuosly, WTF?
