Are there any tutorials online that gives techniques to better aiming?

I see some of the Pros doing circular sweeps, but it just looks like they're
adjusting a worn controller? I'd like to be more precise. I swear that I'm
shooting everyone in the head, but my quick death says otherwise...

Thanks for the help Arbiters. :D

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

It depends on whether you are overshooting your target or undershooting. I would recommend changing your sensitivity a little higher or a little lower until you find you are doing better.

if you swear it looks like you're hitting them in the head, then you probably are, on your screen. but that might not be was is registering due to latency and lag... theres nothing you can do about that.

Yeah, so if you notice you do a lot better in split-screen with your friends, you know it isn't really your fault.

Actually you can do something, once you recognize how strong the latency is, you have to adjust your play to it, as in shooting where you think your opponent will be in the next split second. Most of the time from mid-long distance you shouldn't be shooting directly at the head, but a little to the side of it, depending on the latency.

Dont try sniping a grenade.

The posts above are true though so i wont restate anything.
But chances are you're not very good at sticking people?

Leading.

It'll help, but it's extremely difficult when someone is far away or moving at a high speed.

If the person is in combat with a a member of your team, just go for a body shot. At the very least it'll take half of their overall health(including shields) and allow your team to finish them off. Or if they are already almost finished, it may kill them. It still tips the scales.

Another technique involves sweeping an area, and if you fire precisely when the reticule is red, and you sweep fast enough, you'll always hit them. The problem is, it's technically cheating, and it kinda ruins the fun of the kill.

I prefer leading. And although it's hard, takes patients, and takes time to learn and get better at, it's the best way to snipe anything that's moving without taking advantage of the game's anti-lag programming.

I'd normally recommend you play Team Snipers and just camp a lot, and practice. But Team Snipers uses a crappy playlist of small maps, meaning the art of short range sniping is all the skill you'll get, which really only comes in handy if you have a crappy weapon and someone comes in close range of you. And even then, the "skill" of close range sniping is just sweeping the area and trying to hit someone 10 feet in front of you, which really removes the point of "sniping".

Just remember, "One Shot, One Kill" but if you must you can do two body shots. It's extremely easy in Halo 2, and if you get the Covenant's energy sniper, you can do it twice in a row with no delay, if you don't mind the weapon overheating and taking you out of zoom.

Hit the chest 3 times, then go for a headshot. You have a lot less of a chance of missing the chest.

wow this is actually a pretty good tip lol, the first 3 shots only need to hit the body to take down the shield, then you finish them with the fourth. With a br you want to be smooth and aim more with your strafe. But definately when you're sniping or running around in a hardcore match you want "precise flicks". Imagine like you're playing swat and you just want to hit their head before they hit yours. You just swoosh it to their head. Eventually you just make little flick adjustments when aiming because there's so much auto aim. The best way to improve your aim though is to force yourself to play get crapped on and play better people. If i jump into a pro ffa then get like 6th or 7th the first game, warm up a lot, and then get 2nd or 3rd after that. You just need to work on the precision.

A good technique I use when ever im playing, whether warming up or in the middle of my 10th match, is the aimer twirl. I originally learned of the Ogre twirls back in 04'. I was watch MLG's original free on demand and in an interview with the Ogres they explained the purpose. When you hit a slow part in a game like you're camping or haven't been in a gun fight for a little while, then you want to use the twirls. They keep your figures "warmed up" much like doing stretches between workouts. When your figures get cold you have a more hectic jerky aim, but if you can keep them in top condition you're aim will reflect that. When I do the twirl i don't just spin the stick in circles either. I try to make a little circle on the screen and have the aimer end where it started or just pick a spot where i want to twirl it to. That way you recalibrate your mind. This has come up big. You basically keep doing the circles and fixing the little screw ups like you went too far to the left until you can more consistently have it stop where you want it to.

Also the controllers need to calibrate through using them, a quicker way to do this is by twirling the joysticks, I always advice if you change stations in a tournament or are just getting on halo to play, to take a good 30 seconds to twirl the aiming joystick in both directions so its nice and smooth, ready for your aiming needs. (to see what im talking about, play for a while on a sensitivity of 4 or higher, then disconnect your controller and plug it back in, it should feel a good sensitivity higher.)

It's generally a better idea just to go for the headshots instead of the bodyshots though, since a lot of times you may not know if your opponent have half shields or something like that.

Clawing doesn't help your aim unless you are double shooting. It allows you to control your body movements and your aim at the same time, it doesn't improve your aim.

hmm...with all the games I've played in team snipers, you only had to shoot twice to the chest with the human sniper :-/

The claw was initially made famous by Walshy. It allowed him to play, look and shoot/ throw grenades/ melee/ and jump and look. It basically allows you to keep your thumbs on the joysticks and still hit all the buttons. So you can always walk and aim while doing anything.

the way that really helped me man, was lower your sensitifity, find your level, and keep your reticle head level, ALWAYS. dont jerk around the aiming stick either, take it smooth.
most of all just play br games, and have fun with it, dont stress it.

Everything that is mentioned here are good tips, however, the harsh reality is that most players are either good or not good as far as overall BR skills are concerned. Once you fully adjusted to the controls of the game, as far as shooting ability goes there is very little you can do to adjust your hand-eye coordination. You can work hard on BR drills and playing alot of MLG FFA's and team games to try and be more accurate and you might get a little better with your control, but maybe youre looking in the wrong area to improve in. Try adjusting your playstyle and mentality to compensate for a lessened reaction time (like me).

I may just be talking out of my ass though since I dont know you and I havent seen you play. If I played with you I might could help diagnose your problem a little easier. This is just me taking a bling shot at trying to help, sorta like someone telling you that the dark red spot on your dick is an STD instead of a heat rash and they arent a doctor, lol.

With a BR or carbine, aim upper chest for the first shots, and then go for the headshot. Once you get used to these weapons, you should just have an instinct as to when someone is one shot. If you go for four headshots, you'll generally take 5-6 shots to kill. With Sniper, I'd advise you to get good with quick scoping. Walk around out of zoom looking for targets, put it near the, quick scope and sweep the head. If their back is to you, just take the easy two shot kill.

BTW, Kevin can't out BUUR me. :)
