"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

Yesterday, I was using my phone's browser to access B.net. My email address was already saved when i went to sign in, so I just had to input my password. After I had clicked enter, I returned to B.net not signed in. I hit sign in again and put in my password. I then checked 'Saved Email Address and Password' and clicked Enter. I returned to B.net again not signed in. After about 10 or so times, I just got out of my browser and did something else.

Now, I understand that Bungie.net was not made for my browser. But the problem is that this happens even on my desktop browser.

I searched about this problem because I remembered that Achronos talking about it. Here's his quote:

Posted By: Achronos

There are two things going on here. First, there was a bug a while ago with a corrupted cookie being sometimes left around for certain people (who had "remember my password" checked) that prevented them from ever logging in. So, a change was made a while ago for the system to stop doing what's called a "silent reauthentication" of your cookies - this means that coming to the page, the master passport cookies don't "stick" if the system has to clear out bad ones first. It isn't really a solution, more of a workaround, but it is better than the alternative.

There is another bug, though, that makes this problem appear worse. You see, there are two cookies that get set for Passport to work. But, a web browser has a limit per domain of cookies that it can use, and bungie.net comes really close to this limit. There is a bug with the forum's polls that cause extra cookies to be created that exceed this limit. Most browsers remove older cookies silently when this happens, and if one of the Passport cookies is picked, you appear to become logged out. Of course, you aren't - the master live.com server still thinks you're logged in, so you hit sign in and it doesn't even ask for your password. It is on the list of things to fix. If you want to avoid it... don't vote in polls, or at least, don't vote in too many of them.

This was almost three months ago, and it still hasn't been fixed. I understand that Achronos and the Web Team is busy with the relaunch of B.net for Halo 3, but this is a problem that's very annoying. Granted, it's a small problem, but it's a problem nonetheless.

Hopefully with the relaunch, this problem will be fixed.

because if seeing is believing,
then believe that we have lost our eyes

Just stick away from Phone browsers if you don't want the problem. I have never had to try more than twice to sign in. It actually only took me one try on my friend's iPhone.

If they have addressed that there's a problem, I'm sure it will be fixed by September 25th.

I wasn't really talking about how it doesn't work on a phone browser, but just the bug in general. The only reason I mentioned the phone was because I got fed up with it. It's happened before on my regular computer as well. I was just addressing the issue and wondering if it'll be fixed anytime soon.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Honestly, I'd rather that the web-team spent their time on more important issues. True, this is insanely annoying sometimes, but I for one can live with it.

I get that bug all the time. I don't save my email or my password, but the bug can persist for 4 to 50 tries. Logging in on the "meet the team" page seems to help for some reason. It usually only takes from 2 to 7 tries on that page.

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

I've never had a major problem with the sign-in error.

With my cookies saved, however, it always takes me two tries, no more though.

I am a proud user of correct spelling and grammar.

I'm surprised that the web team hasn't released a hot-fix recently. Last time they did that was in June, so it looks like they need another one, even if it is just fixing a few things.

Well, if you go straight to one of your group forums (before signing in), then that seems to help. On the chance that it fails, all you have to load is the "you must be signed in to interact with forums" instead of the entire bnet homepage.

You get used to it...the maximum times I've had to sign in and it didn't work was three.

Hey, that was odd. When I previewed my post before submitting it, it showed up in orange text.
How odd.

I've never had to do it more than 3 times...anyone who has time to click the sign in button 50 times really needs to get a job or something.

Same here.

Look, if you see "wsignin=1.0" (or whatever it was) in the URL after logging in, you need to do it again. Just click Sign in again before the whole page loads to save time.

I don't seem to have that problem, but I erase my cookies and cache all the time.

If this is a big problem for you (slow connection, or if it keeps happening), there is a fix you can use. Assuming you have Firefox, go to Tools --> Options --> Privacy --> Show cookies. Search for bungie, then delete all the cookies from Bungie.net. This will make room for the sign in cookie. (Opera users can also delete cookies from specific sites, and if you're using it, I doubt that I need to tell you how to do that. If you're using Internet Explorer or another browser, well, I don't have them so I couldn't tell you if that's possible or not, much less how to do it. In that case....)

Alternatively, you can simply delete all of your cookies; the option for this is found under Tools for almost every browser.

I know that this isn't a real fix, but if you're clicking that button more than two or three times, this would be a much better option.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Hm I don't have this problem. On either a wireless mobile device (I use a Blackberry) or a computer, I never have to click the signin button more than two or three times. But if others are having the problem described above, I guess that is kind of a big deal. Weird.

Most of the time when I post on here its on dial up, so the problem is severely amplified for me. It takes 10 tries sometimes to get signed in, which on dial up is a pretty big deal.

Stop being poor.

What kind of Statement is that? BroadBand is NOT available to 100% of the world idiot. I can not get any form of decent BroadBand. So shut up and think before you post

On topic.

I normally have to press sign in twicxe, but one time It would not let me sign in for more then 2 hours even though it was telling me that I was signed in. When I checked with login.live.com it said my email was signed in but B.Net would not detect the cookie. I even tried deleting all my cookies and cache to no avail. Bungie really needs to fix this, Not even Forzamotorsport.net has this problem

I'll be on my own side.

It usually takes me two tries to sign in. Clearing my cookies helped for a few days, but then it started again. I learned to live with it, but it's still annoying.

If only my personal experience was taken into account, I'd say it's no big deal. It always takes me only two clicks of the sign in button, so its just a little bug for me. However, hearing that it has actually kept someone from the site makes me think it deserves a little attention.

Dude, has you never experienced this bug? It's not a matter of typing in the wrong password, because I do type it in correctly. It's a matter of actually being signed in, but it doesn't appear so here on B.net.
