OK.
Radical idea, from the pictures shown I believe that by using a flame that was hot enough you could actually melt the plastic on the inside and have it drip out.I dunno... then you'd run the risk of melting the outside of the helmet too, which is also plastic. It would be sweet if it was some kind of futuristic metal, but I don't think we're that lucky. I say stick with the chisel. 20 minutes to loads of fun!
I think the good old jigsaw/chisel method will be best. Another idea I had involves a nice lathe, and wooden bowl working tools. You could set it up with a bowl sander, and work the inside out like that, but to do it safely, you'd have to clamp the outside of the helmet very securely, and it might get damaged. The helmet will still need clamping with the chisel, but it won't have to be as extreme, some soft clamps with rags to prevent scarring should do the trick.
I have to say, the heat idea is pretty good though, only it'd be complicated to set up a useful, efficient way to do it. Only thing I can think of that might work, and minimize risk to the helmet, would be to heat a metal rod enough that it would melt the plastic, and carefully "scoop" out the insides. I think this would be even more tedious than the chisel work though.
