Can anybody tell me why my Xbox always fails to load the map in multiplayer? Getting connected is primarily good and I have DSL connection, but I can never play a real match against anyone. I was wondering if my Xbox is just crap and I need a new one, or does my DSL just not want me to play Halo 2 online?

If you have even the slightest clue as to what I can do email it to me : styles_n_plays_69@hotmail.com

Certain Xbox drives (I believe it's the Thompson model) have issues reading discs. You can have your box fixed or you can pick up a new one.

I'm plagued by this problem too. Once it occurs, you can't stay in Optimatch and keep trying to connect...it will just fail over and over again. If you listen to your Xbox, you'll probably be able to hear the DVD drive making a repeating noise...like it's stuck in some kind of loop. Mine makes a very distinctive sound when this error pops up.

I used to think I had to turn my Xbox off to get going again, but I think I found a better/quicker solution last night. I need to test further to see if this works reliably, but here's what I think will do the trick:

1. Instead of trying "Start Game" again in Optimatch, hit (B) to go back a menu (Custom Game, Optimatch, Create a Party, etc).
2. Select "Create a Party" or whatever it's called (next option below Optimatch). This appears to make the DVD drive snap out of it's rut (you should be able to hear the drive spin off to another part of the game disc).
3. Then instead of really starting a new party, just hit (B) again and go back into Optimatch. You will probably be back in the game....until the damn drive flakes out again!
