Yeah he should be in Halo 2. And he is probably the reason that the Covenant found Earth.
1. Remember, Guilty Spark knew of all other Halo Stations in the universe, and by crooss-referencing that knowledge with what little information he got out of Keyes's ship, he was probably able to determine where the MC was from.
2. The Covenant, are going to wonder what the hell happened to their battle group (especially their carrier the Truth and Reconciliation). After the MC escaped, the Main Covenant fleet probably sent a search group (and most likely a Prophet) out to the what they thought was a complete and functioning Forerunner Artifact. Of course when they arrive they find their fleet utterly destroyed, and the Artifact a flaming wreckage. The only thing left over that survived is a little AI unit.
3. Now most would say, Guilty Spark would have been destroyed by a Covenant AI. This is a misconception. The Covenant would not destroy Guilty Spark, because he is not a Human AI. Guilty Spark is a Forerunner AI, and of course the Covenant whorship all things Forerunner. SO, the Covenant most likely tried to integrate him with their AIs.
4. By integrating him, Guilty Spark was able to cross reference the information he had learned from the Humans, his own personal knowledge of the universe, and the knowledge of the Covenant, to narrow down where Earth was.
5. When the MC destroyed Halo's Main Flood Contamination Function, he also destroyed Guilty Spark's Primary Function. So now GS has a microchip to pick with MC and Cortana. So it is my belief that GS has given the location of the last Forerunner system to the Covenant: The third planet of the SOL System.
But I also think that GS, is wrong in his analysis, and that the Forerunner tecnology is not on Earth, but is so close to the planet that, his knowledge says it is the earth. In my opinion, the actual location of the Forerunner Tech, is most likely on the Moon.
