I won't speak for anyone else, but can you look in the H3 forum and The Flood and honestly tell me that that strictness is not justified?

True, it's not really the Moderator's fault. It's just the community nowadays.

Seriously. And if B.net was a real "community" then I'll probably live in it. It would be kinda like an awesome ghetto or something.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

A geek ghetto, actually. It's true cuz it was in Time.

Would I want to live with the Bungie.net community?

GOD NO.

I would agree that some of them would be EXTREMLY annoying. But I mean, besides that it would be kinda cool.

achronos double posting? breaking rule mb?

What Achronos did was address two different subjects (raised by two different individuals) in two separate posts. That may count as double posting, but only in the "-blam!--retentive Rainman-impressionist" sense. It served an actual purpose other than inflating his own ego and unjustifiably putting the thread back at the top of the forum.

He also posted in sentences, with proper case lettering.

If you're going to call out staffers for misbehaviour, you might want to correct your own first.

-- Steve gets really annoyed at forum cops when they blow the call.
I always use grammar, unless I'm tired, which I apparently was when I posted that. Besides I was just pointed something out, don't have to make a big deal over it.

And here I first read that thinking it was a reference to me. Then I realised it was just a reference to Dustin Hoffman.

But yeah, If B.net were a real-life community, I would live here. The crime rate would be low, I'd be friendly with the police, and I'd probably have a bigger house.

B.net hasnt changed much in the 3 and a half years I have been here. It has just grown. B.net has a lot more members now and that means more morons. Sure things could always be better but wouldnt you rather have this site than a site where everyone is nice and agrees with one another? What is the fun in that?

Would I like to live in a community like B.net? Of course I would. The constant chaos and bickering is somewhat amusing.

  • 09.11.2007 7:09 PM PDT

I wouldn't go as far as to say that I would enjoy living "in" B.Net, but it certainly is a nice place to visit. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night being in such proximity to the Halo 3 Forums.

I don't think it's really changed. I feel as though Bungie has, in a sense, grown up a little bit and become more professional than in years past.

Meh. I don't really care. I'm a lurker now, if you can even call me that. I check the septagon regularly, and look for posts by bungie in Halo 3 forums sometimes, but other than that, the community side of b.net is totally lost on me.

this is just me personally, I should add. I've just lost interest. I'd rather spend my time PLAYING video games, rather than talking about them on forums.

Also, I should add that when I grew weary of Halo 2, I grew weary of the forums. Perhaps Halo 3 will change this for me.

On the flip side, unless you're a pædophile, you would never get any.

Wow...I was JUST about to make a topic like this now...but then I see this...hmph.

Anyways, yeah...I was always wondering why the Mods and Bungie staff always have to be sooooooooo strict. Why can't they all just, you know...lighten up.

Now I don't mean to let rule breakers get off free. I except them to serve justice where justice needs to be served. And I'm not talking about lighter punishments either.

What I am talking about is maybe some more....fun....or...witty sarcasm in their posts.

A while ago one person made a stupid thread or a stupid posts or something...and Achronos posted something witty and followed it with "*Slaps [user who made the topic]*". That's what I want to see more of from the Mods and Bungie staff.

But on the other hand, I do expect them to set the example. Granted, that's not going to stop the masses from saying 'old' or 'phail' but it still helps separate them along with the members who post wisely...from the members who post immaturely.

I mainly stay in the private groups now, but these complaining about the end of the golden age of Bungie threads were around when I first joined. There never was a Bungie Garden of Eden. Things change and we have to adapt to them.

If you want looser rules, then start your own groups where you are in charge. Otherwise, we have no rights. The H3 forum is no worse than Zanzibar used to be.

I've been on the forums for 3 years and it seems no different to me. Granted, there is a much larger population of 10-14 year olds now.

And when was the last time you were in there, Ghandi? Let's not go slagging communities you haven't been to in weeks, kthx.

Anyway, your perception of the internet is skewed. No websites are 4chan-esque, its just 4chan draws elements from every corner of the internet. It's a hub, one of the most visited websites on the internet. In fact, it'd be more wierd if a website didn't display elements of the 4chan subculture.

It's not like in-jokes and mildly offensive memes are anything new to bungie, either. May well be time to take off the rose-tinted specs.

Pardon the brevity, but no.

  • 09.12.2007 11:03 PM PDT

I've only been here for less than a year (but more than half a year) and I must say I almost had a feeling of happiness before the beta. The halo 3 forum was "What if this" and "What if that". With the occasional old info (wasn't as much of flaming going on if it was atleast a month or less old). But I remember the first time someone replied to one of my threads saying, "old". I thought, WTF? And just moved on. But now it's nearly a problem with a majority of the people in the halo 3 forums(not just the people posting old info, but the spammers and people who say "OLD"). Sometimes I actually fear posting in the Halo 3 forums and sometimes I think it's a waste of time to post. Sometimes I actually type a post and say, "oh screw it" and not post at all.

Wait, you actually enter the H3 forum? You are a braver man than I, sir.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

Ah, how I do love the Flood. A true community. You have those seasoned veterans who all know one another as if they all grew up in the same orphanage. Some of whom accept new-comers and educate them in the proper ways of respect towards others, and those who naturally shun said new-comers away. Like every village, it has its idiots, but it also has its great heroes.

I remember Zanzibar quite well. The flaming and name-calling. The trolling. The glitch discussions. The confusion between New Mombasa, Zanzibar, and Optimatch. The trolls. The Trolls. The good times. The bad times. The call to arms in the Septagon about how it must be improved (which, ironically enough, always led to a lot of people agreeing that there was a problem and about three of four people actually doing something about it).

In all of my time here, I haven't in the slightest lost the feeling of community. I know those I love and those I hate. I regularly converse with those I love (and a few that I'm still trying to formulate a concrete opinion about), and try to get along with those I hate as best I can, since I must try to work with them. I've made friends and enemies, and have seen battle. I've seen memes come and go like trains to our station. I've seen fools banned and good men praised. I've taught and learned. I've felt that I was part of a community the whole time, and I am not worried about losing that feeling until I myself leave.

I enjoy it here. If I could, I'd live in the Bungie.net community.
