Experience is what causes a person to make new mistakes instead of old ones.

I quit the postgame lobby as a 28 in Slayer yesterday, anyone that was in the pregame lobby in my party can vouch that i was a 28 after that game.
I signed on this morning as a 26 in team slayer. What happened to make me lose 2 levels overnight?

Here is the game we lost (i would think i went down to a 27 after this, but no, i stayed at 28 in the lobby afterwards)

Then here is the very next game on my list
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsHalo2.aspx?gameid=765447 067&player=NsK%20x%20Storm%20x

You can clearly see i go from a 28-26 overnight. Im a 27 right now afer winning two games today.
But still, losing two ranks from nothing?

Total overview above.

Have fun discussing your wierd experiences.

I looked at your game stats and the only thing I can come up with is that in the game that you last played where you were a 28, you ended up last, and were beaten by people who had lower levels than you. You must've lost so many experience points that it put you back to a 26. Other than that, I have no idea why you would go down TWO levels.

Wow that sucks. Thanks for info though.
Before ranks reset, i think it was easier to get to 33. I used to go from 25-33 in about 20 games, now its about 3 games each up to 29, 4-5 games up to 33.

Well you were just barely a 28 so one game could drop you all the way through 27.

It appears to be a glitch that will catch up in some time to come. You might not remember but this happened to everyone in late 2004. There was a time frame where levels were off by hundreds of points. When the system was corrected and reporting to Bungie's servers from XBL synced up, the level's were automatically corrected. There was a point where I went from a 29 to a 25 and then back to a 28 in 2 games. It does happen (rarely from time to time).

Just so you know you are not going crazy here is why it is impossible for a 28 to go directly to a 26.
All info to follow comes from this web page

As it reported you were a 28. If you were at the lowest part of the 28th level you would have 4750 exp.
You played a team of two 26s and two 25s.
When your team lost you would lose points for those 4 players. Your teammates would not play a factor in this since it is a team game.

The points you lose from a higher loss for the 26s are 115exp (difference of 2 levels compared to you), and for the 25s it is 121exp (difference of 3 levels compared to you).
To calculate the points you lose you add up the points from each player you lost to and then divide by the total number of players you lost to.
2 * 115 (for the 26s) + 2 * 121 (for the 25s).

When you add up all those points it is a total of 472exp and then divide by 4 (total players you lost to) we get 118exp.

Now since your a 28 your loss factor is 97.50% so when you add that into the equasion you get a total exp loss of 115exp.
118 * .975

When you subtract 115exp from the lowest exp level of a 28 possible (4750exp) you get 4625exp. That falls into the level 27 range which is 4500-4749. By these numbers it isn't possible to be a 26 so we know it is a glitch.

If you just were lost by this PM me an I will explain it better.

Good lord, a wordy post saying exactly what I said in a heck of a lot fewer words...."you mustve lost so many experience points that you went down two levels." No need to make people's head hurt with lengthy explanations.

You didn't read it did you? What I said was if he was a true lvl28 at 4750exp, it isn't possible to drop to a 26 in one game.

NsK: You are aware you don't drop a level until you are more then HALF way down the previous level. You can be a 28, but only have 27-51/100 of a level. As long as your level stays above half you don't drop. It's their method to keep you playing.

That's a very good point, but the part here is he hadn't lost any games before that one. He won just before the game he posted so he was a legit 28
