No Elites in Halo 3: ODST = FAIL
Hi, I' ve just been playing through Halo 2 again... for like the umpteenth time I know, there ain't much of the game that I haven't already played to death with the exception of the Arby's levels seeing as I never really took to them or him for that matter. So I probably only pressed through them once or twice. However today I've hit about a bit of a revelation, probably a well known self discovery to everyone else here, but after deciding to ditch the vehicles and take to the 100,000 year war section of the Arby's Quarantine zone, I noticed for the first time a ship (In amber Clad I guess) getting shot down in the far distance and later after a refreshing take on the next section on foot, I suddenly peaked that the great lump of burning debris that came next was the ship itself!
The next step of the mission is to track through In amber clad, a fact that I was originally oblivious to. Before now I had thought it was just an out of place tomb reminiscent to something Egyptian, sitting amongst bland Forerunner architecture. Looking through In Amber Clad now I see Bungie didn't go crazy decorating the interior, which gives little clue as to what I'm actually in, especially when I was only just rushing through the stage to play as the chief anyway.... however this discovery adds so much more depth to the stage and Halo 2's story in general. No longer am I wildly confused as to why the flood are going crazy with UNSC equipment, why Captain Keyes' silly -blam!- of a daughter is going all Picard on away missions instead of a swat team or even why the flood are largely human combat forms!!!
During my first play through I thought In Amber Clad was only later hijacked in space (Confused as to how at the time, but later concluded that it was taken over as demonstrated in the Graphic Novel..... but then why was it allowed to crash land or be taken without being self destructed, the crew know of the floods threat!) and rammed into High Charity, far fetched I thought! But..... now I can see clearly now the rain has gone.... *dance*.
In Amber Clads perilous altitude is also understandable! If they had taken high altitude their small craft would have been easily detected and destroyed by the Covenant, putting themselves at risk, and ignorantly underestimating the flood they flew low to quickly retrieve the index.
This is a huge revelation for me..... giving Halo 2 a little more (well alot) credit in the story department but why in the hell was it so subtle?! No body mentions it in dialog, Miranda Keyes is not at all distraught with the loss of her ship and crew (poor scripting and choreography I may add, however we all know that Halo 2 was incomplete anyway) None of the Elites sensationalize the human ship that was just crippled in the sky, let alone making a big deal about leaving the ship for the Flood to repair and escape Halo in which was a huge deal in Halo1 with Truth and Reconciliation..... at this In amber Clad just comes and goes like any piece of scenery and for me unnoticed until now! If there was any reference to saving the ship from Flood infestation I never heard it!
Anywho thats about that on me getting clued up, now all Bungie needs to address the problems with Halo 2's story is strap a jet pack on the MC during that ridiculous space jump at the end of Cairo Station, explain why In Amber Clad was allowed to follow the escaping Covenant ship in the first place and..... hmmmm I'm sure theres a few more nicks to pick but please tell me what you think! :)
