Subject: Halo 2 wide screen problems

Does anyone else notice a drop in their ability to play halo 2 when you play it on a widescreen? I just bought and HD TV for Halo 3 and everygame plays fine (even guitar hero so no HD lag) but for some reason everything feels off when I play an xbox title in wide screen. Should I just change the aspect ratio on my TV? Or do I need to set my 360 back to SD when I play Halo 2? Anyone know if this is a problem or am I just making things up?

I dont know much about hd, but I do know their can be lag associated with certain types of hd tv. I have a DLP tv and it plays great, but Ive heard that Plasma tvs are horrible for gaming.

I play best in widescreen, no issues here.

Same here. I play on a 360, using a Samsung 32-inch widescreen LCD TV, and I haven't noticed any difference in gameplay. Graphics are better on it, which is the only difference I've noticed :)
And OMG does H3 look awesome on it (Beta)! I Can't wait to play the whole game :)

games dont look right to me unless they are in widescreen.

Halo 2 isn't correctly viewed in widescreen mode, 16:9. It was designed with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

BTW, I have a 56-inch 1080p Samsung DLP, and it looks gorgeous... No gameplay issues.

Goose, what kind of HD TV do you have?

I have a 56" Samsung DLP and a 22" Flatpanel LCD. When I play on the DLP, I have major issues with Halo (HDTV Lag) and even Guitar Hero (around 112 ms off) It feels like when I play halo on the big screen, everything is laggy and I totally suck! Howerver, when I play on the LCD (flat panel, not projection lcd) I have no issues at all (Guitar Hero lag adjustment goes to 6 ms, which is completely accurate since the response time is 5ms) If you're using a projection TV, I would say that could cause some issues. I have no issues with wide-screen on the 22". I would try playing on a tube tv or flatpanel and see if you notice any difference.

RIP Halo 2.

DLP is notorious for being one of the laggiest technologies out there. For anyone who games, stay away from DLP. Samsung seems to be the worse. In fact, my friend had to return his Samsung 32" LCD shortly after we plugged it in. Even on game mode, there was a noticeable delay in Halo 2. You could pull the trigger and have your finger off the trigger before the gun would fire. It was awful. He exchanged it for a 32" Vizio LCD which is working fine and I have a 37" Vizio LCD that works well.

Maybe you don't do as good as you used to because [when you play halo 2 on widescreen] you see a deformed image, there is no real widescreen format for Halo 2.

This may have been a problem with older DLPs, but has been fixed by Samsung (can't speak for other DLP manufacturers). I'm surprised that you noticed a problem with an LCD. My experience with our Samsung is completely different, which was purchased in February of this year.

Be courteous and polite to everyone you meet... but have a plan to kill them if necessary.

I just bought a new Samsung 56" DLP tv. I set the tv to game mode, and let the tv auto detect the aspect ratio. I have the 360 attached thru the component connection, and set the 360's aspect ratio to 16:9. I do not see any lag, nor do I have picture issues. It all looks fine. My game play experience has not changed. I do not feel like things are lagging at all. But, this Samsung DLP is the newest generation, using LEDs not a bulb/color wheel.

Actually, All DLPs should experience the same issue. The chip is manufactured by Texas Instruments. The TV I have is about 2 years old which is why I experience so much lag on that tv. You, more than likely, have a newer generation DLP Chip.

U guys are playing on 360s right? My DLP is perfect for gaming. I also hear u dont have to worry about screen burn with a DLP.

FISH OR CUT BAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Samsung DLP 50" with game mode and a Elite hooked up with the HDMI plug. No problems with game play.
DLP TV's give you a better picture and color then LCD or Plasmas

  • 09.12.2007 10:38 PM PDT

I also hear DLP sets can be most prone to lag. Apparently older plasmas are too

I bought a LCD about 18 months ago, never had a problem with it really.

You know, DLP sets really aren't common here it would seem (I'm in the UK). Only plasma and LCD. I'm not sure I've ever even seen one in a shop.

DLP is a Fanboy thing. "Ive got a DLP TV. the commercials say its a bunch of mirrors so it must be expensive. i own everyone" truth is DLP is terrible for gaming and it always has been. i have a 3lcd Sony tv and it is ideal. A friend of mine plays at home on a Samsung DLP that was purchased at the beginning of the summer. Its a little over 50 inches, not sure exact size. He loves coming to my apartment because he can actually play guitar hero on my TV and can actually play halo without worrying about lag.

RIP Halo 2.

Well, I have a 57" CRT HDTV, the fastest responding technology available. Absolutely no lag at 1080i or even 480i.

Nah, it's the TV that does this. On some TVs a delay is introduced by the time it takes to process the signal.
