Nope. The first true graphical video game, space war, was made by MIT students just for the hell of doing it.
Some games are targeted at kids, but the fact is that they did not start out as entertainment solely for children and they are not entertainment solely for children now. Mature-rated and even adult-only games are regularly put out, with mature themes and even jokes and references only older people will get. They are made by 20- and 30-something developers, some are even olderr The average age of the gamer is fast approaching 30.
You think the first true FPS games were targeted at kids? You think DOOM was made with kids in mind?
Hmmm did I say fps's were pointed towards kids? I didn't mean to anger you.
What's with you? "You think the first true FPS games were targeted at kids? You think DOOM was made with kids in mind?" You really sound mad. Whats wrong? You seriously sound like you need a GRIP.
Was I talking about MIT? Was I talking about DOOM? Was I talking about 30 year old bums who live in their basement? Nope triple DEE.
I mean the great home games such as donkey kong and mario bros were not pointed towards adults. They were entertainment, yes, but they were for kids. No one plays a game made by MIT students made for the hell of it. Arcade games were made for everyone but most NES games were made for younger entertainment, not for 30 year olds who live in their moms basement like Live Free or Die Hard's Warlock. Don't get mad, you seemed angry on your last sentence.
You must not have heard of Mario or Donkey Kong or Legend of Zelda. I meant the first home games, like NES games. Not an Atari with Pac-man on it. Read about video games, I wasnt born yesterday. Mature games werent made first. PONG was. I was talking about home games. Not MIT. Guess what angry man, FPS games were not the first games ever made! I never said that, triple DEE.You assume too much my friend.
Read the whole thread the next time, I never was talking about the latest M rated games for this subject. Logic. Use it.

As gratifying as I'm sure it is for you to smugly indulge yourself with visions of anyone contradicting you being an angry nutjob, I have to burst your bubble there and explain that nobody is getting angry here. Do not mistake a challenging question for an angry jibe, even if it does make you feel good to do so.
So what you are saying, is that the "first" games - as defined by your own narrow, subjective and highly arbitrary criteria - were intended for children. There are two problems here. The first is that your definition of the 'first' games seems to have no foundation, except what satisfies your argument. There were adult-oriented games before the release of the NES (like Infocom's early text-based interactive fiction, and godawful 'video game nasties' like the often-referenced 'custer's revenge') and there were adult ariented games after it too. Back in the 70s and early 80s a large portion of games were designed by young adult technology enthusiasts, just for other people like them. The same can often be said now. You have just taken a tiny slice of video game history, called it the genesis of video gaming, and then on that basis saying that all games were originally meant for children. In the infancy of video games almost no children even had access to computers. The second problem is that even if you were right, and all video games were originally meant for children, what bearing does that have now? I wouldn't say kids shouldn't play games even if some of them ARE filled with adult content. But to say they are just for kids, or even were just for kids at some point in the past, is lunacy.
Some sections of the video game market are, and were historically, aimed at kids as I agreed. But at no point in time was that ever true of all games.
What? I never said that all games were pointed towards kids. You misunderstand me. Good bye rhythm.
