Most likely this just bothers me because I'm so nit picky but I noticed that good threads that are very informative, or have a valid topic always get overlapped and buried by nonsense threads. This happens mostly for me in the Halo 3 Forum. For instance, if someone was to create a thread about how the Warthog being too heavily armored in the Beta or how an open Team Chat would be a better idea for Halo 3 it will just be buried to the 3rd page by repeat threads like "Sign here if you're going to play as a Spartan in halo 3" or "Poll: Who's better the Arbiter or Master Chief"

It's quite a problem and I want to know if the Moderators know about this and how does the community feel about it.

It's just a trend of The World, in general.

Idiocy overwhelms intelligent reasoning. It's ok, we are cracking down, brutally, on the H3 forum, many idiots are being dealt with for non-productive behaviour, don't fret, pet.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Welcome to BNet! That's how it's always been.

The Halo 3 Forum is pretty much majority ruled. Assuming that a thread is on-topic for the forum, people will only respond to it if they want to talk about it. As interesting as the threads you mentioned are to you and me, the fact is that the sillier topics seem to be more attractive to the majority of Halo 3 Forumgoers.

Although intelligent discussion about Halo 3 in its dedicated public forum would be nice, and although it can be found occasionally, the better place to go for the types of in-depth topics that you wish to discuss are the private groups in which the posters seem to be able to exercise more self-control about not posting threads like "How will you spend the last hour before you get Halo 3?"

For me, anyway, the Halo 3 Forum is for getting up-to-the-second Halo news and participating in lighthearted discussion that you must understand moves fast and often ends abruptly as the thread falls off the 1st page. There are lots of good groups out there for more in-depth and intelligent discussion, and I'd be happy to point you to a few if you'd like.

But it's a bit subjective to say that the Halo 3 Forum has a "problem" just because the popular topics of discussion are not the ones you'd prefer to have.

I swear, if I were a moderator, I would proofread everything I saw in there. I'm good at interpreting garbled words, but it's getting absolutely ridiculous in there.

I agree, and think I may have a solution.
Sub-forums. Vehicles, weapons, maps, multiplayer, single-player, general.
Not in that order, but, yeah. Sub-forums.

I fully understand how sillier topics are more tempting to post in and flame in but I just don't understand how when I search "Dual Swords" I get over 50 recent topics in the Halo 3 Forum about it. Didn't moderators do something about that before? All multiplayer weapon ideas went into GameJunkieJim's thread that is stickied in the "Threads of Interest" I feel now that maybe Moderators don't care anymore. All hope has been lost for that forum I guess..

I can see how you feel that but I assure you, that is the product of over-worked, under-motivated, outnumbered mod crew. We are working pretty hard but some of us are taking breaks or leaving or have other affairs to tend to...

Don't forget under-.. not paid. lol

I know you guys can't be everywhere at once and *gasp* have lives and I don't really want to get into single Moderators because that would be against the rules.

The Problem I have is people on the forums just don't seem to acknowlege the Threads of Interest sticky. If we could all look at that some more, the forums may be a cleaner place.

I think the Halo 3 forum surpassed the old Multiplayer forum. Man that forum was insane with stupidity. Yet, the Halo 3 forum has overcome that level of stupidity long ago. Yeah I've been reading around these forums for a long time.

We don't WANT to blacklist anyone.

And taking longer = harder. We rely on being able to quickly remove idiocy before it escalates. The more forums, the more time, the more time, the more difficulty.

Hell, you might be being sarcastic but tone in text is hard. I'm just saying, more forums = more problems.

More Mods?

Maybe we need a few more mods since one of our best just stepped down, and a couple for the Halo 3 rush, but you'd need even more mods for subforums. I've always disliked the feeling of subforums on most other message boards. B.net is better the way it is.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells

I see that every thread in the Septagon turns into a "Lets talk about the mods and rate their performance" thread.

Now that is annoying.

Like I said, I didn't want it to turn into a discussion like this because it isn't their fault. It's the fault of the community not reading Stickies, not using the Search Button, and not maybe the little message for the Halo 3 is a little misleading as well. "For all things Halo 3" maybe it should be changed to "For all things Halo 3 that have not been done to death and are not completely idiotic." Well maybe that's a little uninviting...

Sorry, didnt mean for it to seem like I was targeting your post.

What I meant is that it is annoying how the current trend in the Septagon is turn every thread into a mod evaluation thread. The topic could be about sucking Jello shooters off of Marty's forehead, but it eventually turns into a thread about hoe the mods need to crack down in the H3 forum.

I've noticed this as well, which is why I'm not trying to make it sway that way.

um this is a question for the mods, so no one else anwer it plz.

if you've seen the halo wars forums ( i know i must seem like a broken record but they relly are good) the are organized, not filled with locked threads, and filled with intelligent conversasion ( that rarely go of topic but when they do the forumers fix the problem their selves) why doesn't bungie just cooperate with ensemble studieos to make a mega furom, combine their mods and forums, to make a great forum that every would love

just an idea, but for every 100 ideotic ideas there is one good one, if this is a dumb one, that was just one step closer to a smart one

I can see that it is very hard to mod this place. But the sheer volume of people who think that just because someone has an interesting idea, they have the right to harass and make fun of the original poster. Case in point, http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=13640526

This is a classic example of people just being complete idiots. The original poster wanted to basically ask a question. Now if it were to happen is beyond the issue. Just about every response to this post was a direct attack on the original poster. I understand where this person is coming from. It would be nice to get recognition for being in the beta but he doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.

Its possible that maybe having members of the community help out with the moding of the forum. They would only have the ability to say delete a post and if the post has violated too many rules, then they recommend to a more senior mod to add that user to the blacklist.

thats just my 2 cents.
