I can't stand kids playing with me, stating worthless observation and throwing out orders to their team, not to mention screaming about something happening that they don't like or talking trash they will never be able to back up.
Its as if Delusions and grandeur, as well as disrespect and overall lewdness is being bred into kids these days.
Wouldn't it be great if our 360 had a setting to turn anyone under 16 or 18 into non preferred players?, You know, just to decrease the chance that you might be matched up with them, and to further marginalize them into their own groups, I'm sure they would have more fun playing with other immature screaming ***holes than with us "old" people.
Not that halo or these forums has even been a place for logical, mature content or good sportsmanship.

Ever notice how the list of things "you just have to deal with" gets bigger and bigger almost every day?

Yep, but this is something that can be fixed.
Stop playing, or stop complaining.

A few weeks ago I started a thread about a 30+ age filter, siimilar to what you propose. Most of the kids who frequent these forums didn't understand, and thought I was trying to come up with a way to keep them from playing at all. I think such a filter is an excellent idea, and I would willingly wait a few more seconds in MM to guarantee matchups with adults.

and not only dont you have to put up with little kids, but games are just more fun when you play them with people your own age group.

That is a terrific idea. I'm all for that, except for one minor detail. I really do believe it is much more a case of the emotional maturity of the person rather than the chronological age. I have met persons on Live who are defintely OLD enough to play, but have the maturity and mentality of pond scum. I have on my friend's list and play with a 14-year old young man who is the most mature, gracious, honorable young man of his age that to date I have met on Live. He is a friend to both my husband and myself. This young man also expresses displeasure towards persons with immature minds, regardless of their chronological age. If there were some sort of "filter", I think that would just serve to weed out bad along with the good ones. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater so to speak. I think this is a good idea, but maybe filter it according to rep or something like that. Most players who come across bad apples on Live will leave some sort of feedback that affects their rep. This may ultimately be a better way of dealing with them.

No age is not an accurate interpretation of maturity, but generally you can find maturity in older people, and immaturity in young people.
Who is this mature, gracious, diamond in the rough you speak of? i wouldn't mind playing a game with him, if he's as nice as you portray him.

Well, it would be if you limited the pool of MM to a voluntary 30+ group. I wonder about the "Rep" score -- if that will be used in H3 MM selections, i.e. like with like. That would be great, and perhaps an acceptable compromise.

I don' t think it would be appropriate for me to just hand you his gamertag and have him receive a random friend request from you without consulting with him first. Tell you what....you can add me to your friend's list (my GT is xx Femme xx). I'll invite you to play in mm with us and have you meet him that way. Yes, I feel responsible for him while we play, so I watch out for him, kinda like his online mom...lol.

i reckon xbl in general should b controled by the age on ur gamer card....

if ur under 18 u play with the under 18's, over 18 u play with the over 18's....

i know this isnt exactly the same as it being set to 30+ but it would solve alot(not all) problems that ppl have with the younger and more(again not in all case's) inmature group....

that being said, i know alot of ppl under the age of 18 that you'd swear they were older just by the way they acted and behave on xbl. some of the nicest ppl i know on here are under the age of 18....

but on the other hand, i've met alot of jerks n ppl that i really dont wanna hear/play again that are over 18....

yes i know ppl can lie n put there age in as over 18, but im not saying this is a 100% fix. it would help alot though...

just my oppinion....

Pfft, can anyone direct me to a MATURE person online in H2? Some of the little kids have more maturity than the 18+ crowd. I know, I'm 18, and I've played those little kids before long enough to say this.

to bad 75% of the players on XBL are 16-29 years old, so yeah thats a great idea why don't we cut out 3/4 of the players online, just so a couple adults can play with each other and reminence(sorry cant spell) about the old days.. its M for 17 years and up TO BUY the game, so if im 16 and im mature i wanna be able to play

Random, PLEASE don't misunderstand what we're trying to say here. It's not so much the AGE, it's the MATURITY. If you're 16, and you know better than to shout obscenities at people or act like a jerk to people over your headset, then fine...go ahead and enjoy Live. However, we're talking about all those immature young persons out there who don't have the sense God gave a goose and know how to act with a social group.

Unless you didn't state your point well, this is exactly what I meant when I said that kids didn't understand what I was proposing. Such an age filter wouldn't affect you at all -- and there are enough over 30 (or so) who would voluntarily select such an option that MM would still work.

...and since when is 30 years ago (or whatever), "The old days?"

I have that problem too, one time a nine year old was shouting random profanities at everyone, it kinda ruined the game.

I do feel your pain. However, this is the precise reason that XBox Live is equipped with a mute feature. I think the reason a lot of people complain about kids voices is because they just want something to complain about (not to say YOU are). It's as simple as pulling up a name and muting them.

Well I do it faithfully, every single time someone annoys me. You never know, you just might meet up again in matchmaking. And that's my point, if you don't do what you should do to avoid the problem, you really don't have the right to complain, wouldn't you say so?

I guess you have a point, but in the heat of battle it's often hard for me to tell who is talking.(For me anyway) And in postgame, everyone had already left.

Very true, it IS hard sometimes. But here's a trick: In a calmer moment, say "hey kid, you're too young to play this game!" Trust me, the kid who has been annoying you cannot resist answering this with some smart aleck response. Voila'! You've got the mute bait.
