We all can remember the original names for the forums right? Bungie.net Community being "The Septagon" and The Halo 2 Forum being "New Mombasa" correct?

Well I'm asking why were they renamed and is there a chance we will get more original names for the forums again? The names were perfect but now they have these really boring names for each forum. that just doesn't set the same mood they did back in pre-update Bungie.net.

I agree. The old names were better and the change is only adding to the already existing elitism through the use of the old names.

Yes the old names were much better and I'm surprised they never thought of a name for the Halo 3 Forum back then.

Does anyone know why they changed it? The only reason I can think of is to make it clear as to which forum is which but don't have a description to which forum is which?

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

The "why" is pretty simple. People used to get lost because they couldn't be bothered to read the forum descriptions to find out which forum they were supposed to post in. Now it's been made easier, so that they don't even have to look at a description to see what it's about. I doubt we'll be getting the old names back; Achronos has said that this is an intention part of the site design.

It's a shame, really. "The Septagon" sounds so much cooler than "Bungie Community Forum". I still don't see why the couldn't have the headers say the real names, and then the smaller print under it say the description, and leave the descriptive name in the navigation areas. "Bungie Community -- A gathering place for Bungie community activity" sounds so redundant. Oh well. Like I said, we're probably not going to see those names again any time soon. Well, besides people talking about it. Personally, I don't think I'll ever be referring to this place as the Bungie Community forum.

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

The website is streamlined to not only run better but to work better. Notice how the site is not filled with tons of pictures and scripting tricks. Cause it runs better. Yes the names were awesome but it didn't work. Just like sigs were removed from the post. I like the less cluttered and personally cooler looking Bungie.net.

Yes I like the idea of the header saying the original names of the forums.

They renamed most of the forums simply because there will be, and currently are, new members comes to this site daily, and it's easeier for those new members to find the forums they seek. It also looks more professional to not have weird names for forums.

Not that Bungie is weird or anything, but it would seem strange for a new person who knows nothing of Bungie or its history to be confused on why a community based thread is named 'The Septagon.'
