I'm not sure how to go about this, but... Sometimes when a moderator feels the need to inform the OP why their thread was locked, I don't think it's necessary to bump a thread all the way back up to the top, and then lock it.

What does everyone think about this idea: Rather than replying to a thread to inform the OP as to why their thread was locked, or whatever; they could just edit the first replier's post, and leave an indicative message as to why it was locked. That way, the message can still get across, and useless threads won't have to get bumped-up, and send others' to the depths of Forum Hell.

What does everyone think about this idea?

If the thread is just being locked, why not simply edit the OP's post?
Of course, if the OP was banned, you'd need to edit the replies...

I didn't bring that point up because, let's face it, some (if not most) people will get banned <3

In the Halo 3 forum, with threads being bumped every second, it doesn't make much difference whether it's the 3rd or 1st thread at the top. Usually, if it's at the top half of the page I will just reply, it's easier and the reasoning is more noticeable (when you see "Last reply: ash55").

If it's sinking off the index, I will just edit the first post so that it isn't suddenly bumped above 7 or so threads.

In fact, I did this about a minute ago.

It seems to me like part of the reason the threads aren't deleted.
If no one saw people get punished for what they did, then half the people here wouldn't know any rules.

So IMO bumping to give reason is a good thing. More of a show of power and the rules than anything
