Subject: Why is there no video in the Podcast?

How come the BNet Podcast (which is totally awesome, by the way) only has audio feed and no video feed? I'd be cool to listen and watch it.

A podcast is not a video. I'm not even sure if you could thechnically call it a podcast if there was video involved. It would be kind of cool to watch even though they are probably in a sound-proof room with not a lot going on. Mabey if Lukems was in the corner juggling swords that are on fire.

I don't listen to a lot of podcasts, so they all only have audio. I have a zune anyway.

I'm certifiable.

So you want them to take a 50MB audio podcast and turn it into a 500MB video podcast.

If I get a vote, I vote "no".

-- Steve listens to podcasts on the way to work; video would make that, er, "tougher".

PS: maybe the odd video special or something, but regular? No, I'd prefer it if folks at Bungie focused on their next projects.

Now, if it were accompanied by photos and Mister Chief animations like the zero punctuation reviews.....

I think that I would watch that.

Exactly, not to mention you can listen to them on your PC while browsing, on your iPod while doing work, etc. Just having audio makes multitasking easier.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I do not wish to see Frankie moon the camera. So I am glad there isn't any video.

Facepalm time?

Are you referring to the fact that my link used the term "insipid boom-fest" when referring to a certain, much beloved game?

*shrug*

I was referring to his animation, not his tastes in games.
I'm surprised. That was pretty much spot on.

Why not just record it as a video, then copy it but take out the video, so it would jsut be audio. that way, people that just want the audio version can have that, and people that want the video version can have that.

I'm not sure if they will be able to since they said they were going to get Matt N. to be in it. He would probably destroy all the equipment in a fit of rage.

Bungie.net is not a commercial website; they don't have the bandwidth for a 100MB+ video to be downloaded by half a million people all at the same time.
I don't think ANYONE does.

It would be nice if there was an option for video and audio. But I doubt that would ever happen.

People wouldn't d/l it from the site, just iTunes. It would be an iTunes exclusive.

Well if he mooned the Camera you wouldn't be blinded by the gleam of his bald head. But I guess we'd all rather be struck blind then to see that....

I like that video and all, and it does explain Bioshock pretty well, but it takes a pretty low blow on Halo and console gamers in general. Why can't we just be friends?

Cost aside, I don't think MS are set up for huge dataflow in a short period. They'd need quite a few servers on multiple internet connections, dedicated solely to the podcast.
I'm betting they have better things to spend their money on, at least from their viewpoint.

um... I think you may have forgotten the fact that they release videos on Bungie.net pretty frequently. A few notable ones were the Halo 3 Announcement trailer, the vid-docs, and the first Blomkamp Halo short. If they wanted to do a video, they could host it with no problems.

and Windows Update doesn't generate (and support) tons of traffic?
Yes, it does, but that is a vital service, and the files and whatnot hosted would usually not compare in size to a video podcast.

None of those (with the exception of the announcement trailer) would have been downloaded as rabidly as a podcast.
And I'm fairly certain they were hosted elsewhere. AND they were pretty much one-offs.
