With the intending release of Halo 3 and the rising numbers of less than intelligent users on the forum I was wondering if the Moderating staff has considered issuing bans for gross ignorance. Examples of this would include posters who blatantly ignore any type of grammar, logic, or who are utterly devoid of any knowledge relating anything done on these forums.

Ignorant posts such as those asking for things such as new weapons for halo 3 are a perfect example of this. We all know that the release dare of halo 3 is less than two weeks away, so such requests are as pointless and a waste of space. Other examples of this are those people who seek to stifle the opinions of others. Any time someone asks for a realistic change, there is invariably someone who posts “if you don’t like it don’t buy/play it”. It is clear to me that bungie created these forums, in part, to gather opinions. As such, not only are these people trolling/being asses, they are also taking away from the usefulness of these forums, and the exchange of thought.

These examples are found mostly in the halo 3 forum, but unfortunately there are found everywhere. The flood for example is full of people who make bad jokes(there is actually a rule about this), one liners, etc. Things like “phial” “no u” anything about "butt secks" etc. need to go. In every forum people absolutely refuse to use the search feature, we know button glitches are cheating, we don’t need another 10 threads about it.
It just seems like every time that I come to these forums, the users are dumber than the last time I was here. I know that it is a hard job, but the moderators are looking anyways and users really do need to be shown that this type of thing degrades these forums. The rules are there for a reason and they need to be followed, and this rule needs to both be made, and followed.

HBO
When luke tells you to stfu, you better stfu.
I am known as Zero on both IBO and ARG-Irc.
Zero: Frankie, does the Marty gamer pic have LipStick on?
Frankie: No, it was hobo blood.
I am also an IRIS winner. I was in the 2nd batch, and have the gamerpic, t-shirt, and signed paperback of Ghosts of Onyx by Eric Nylund. If you don't know what IRIS was, here: http://halo.wikibruce.net

People don't get things through their heads, let them have their intelligent moment then bring them down.

At worst, it's a lock and a warning. Immediate bannings for new ignorance shouldn't happen. One word/line responses such as "phail" and the like, though, should be one warning and a ban, unless they're actually related to the thread. In my, humble, opinion, anyway ;)

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

This is exactly what makes people NOT COME BACK. Simple accidents due to ignorance should never be bannable. Thats how it used to be, and I was banned 4 times due to rule changes that happened under my nose, or for simply doing what I had done in many forums before (bumping). This kind of thing pissed me off since I had spent more time in blacklisting than I had spent being an active forum member, all due to ignorance or bad timing.

I dont think banning someone for grammer is apropraite.

Mostly because i type too fast to catch my spelling mistakes and i would be -blam!-ed.
Before you hit submit, try reading over what you wrote. If you read it over, I can guarantee that you'll catch most of your mistakes. This isn't an instant messaging service.

As the saying goes, "Quality, not quanity."

It's good that you don't think that. Heh.
As much as I would love for everyone on the forums to have perfect spelling and grammar, the fact of the matter is that they don't. The Internet isn't a standard in terms of writing style. Many people write very well on paper and just don't care on the Internet.
Denying that part of Bungie's fanbase wouldn't be right, and stereotyping that kind of person to be less intelligent isn't right either.

As far as the one-liners go, I don't like them either, but I think that a ban would be too harsh of a punishment unless the user posted a lot of useless one-liners.

Also, if ignorance was a bannable offense, we might as well close the forums to new users.

See well the thing is, they don't even get warnings.

You should be banned for a whole other reason.

I agree the "Butt Secks" thing needs to go.

It's not funny, it's gross. And I saw a perfectly good thread in the Flood yesterday become completley derailed by posts about............"Butt secks?" What is that?

Why don't you just give me ONE SECOND!

Shishka would ban them on sight, he was evil like that.
Now-a-days, you might get a ban, depending on how stupid you actually are. Or you'll be torched.
Personally I think some jokes need to go, such as "You have AIDS" or the "Rick Roll" and "Bk" (I was exampling!)
"no u" and "Your mom" sometimes get annoying, but I don't really have a problem with that, as long as it isn't like... over-used.
Ahhh...

LOL thanks Flav. The forum as a whole needs to grow up. I've seen other forums handle lots of things that we can't have because of the overall lack of maturity here.

Sadly, I don't think we can fix maturity problems :-/
