Subject: Should the Moderating staff consider banning ignorance?

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

Yes, thats true. I just hate it when people come in with the righteous talk. It really isn't our place to condemn anyone unless they really are blatantly trying to piss people off and break the rules. Although we still don't know his motives for making an alt, it could be legitimate.

In the past couple months I must have seen at least 5 posts saying they know the release date of Halo 3. It's died down a lot, but it seemed like so many people had no clue.

I can forgive when people don't notice things because it's new and the thread about it dropped off the first page, and they can't find it anywhere, not even through searching. I noticed the 4th Grenade all on my own, from the E3 trailer. Why couldn't I find the thread for it? Because a bunch of morons have clogged up these forums with posts about "Omg wouldn't it be sooooo uber if bungie tey put in a 4 grenade cuz u no witout a nother grenade we only hav 6 not 8 like t3h last 2 games!" which entirely blocked any coherent posts from being found.

Ignorance is a true disease inflicted upon a large number of people. I find the best cure is to wait until they have their "smart" moment, and totally shatter their happiness. Then, if they are really stupid--- I mean daring, they'll usually come back with a "Hey man, what's your problem, why do you have to get mad at me because I thought I did something cool?" and that cues you to land the finishing blow and just show them once and for all how idiotic they've been. They won't quite comprehend it, but you'll make them feel crappy. It's only their fault, for not letting natural selection removed them from all suffering.

But alas, defining ignorance is nearly impossible to do in a "legal" way. And odds are, the ignorant fools will come back WHINING and will NOT understand why they were banned or how they were ignorant. Nobody is born ignorant, and it's my hope that one day, some will rise to the point that they can become a coherent human being. Nothing MAKES you ignorant, some people just are, and if they want to sign up on the internet, where they clearly don't belong, there's nothing any of us can do about it. Remember, any idiot can ask for an internet connection and buy a computer. Any idiot can eventually get tech support to fix the problem. But using the internet properly is something most people don't have, and it would feel unjust to them because they would go "ignorance? So I was banned because I'm stupid? That's no reason to ban people".

Ahh the luxury o the modern world, where humans are protected from natural selection, and where there are no kings to have you killed because you are the town fool. Ignorance should be a suspendable offense, and continuous should be bannable, and it'll take longer, but eventually the ignoramus' are bound to do something so stupid and annoying it gets them banned for breaking some major rule. However, it is not feasible at this time.

In case mods do not look, I post links all the time on gmail with spam, leaks, etc. I would occasionally look there to see if people are stupid enough to keep those threads alive.

No, that's actually no so true these days. Or... it wasn't the last time there was an official consensus. Most moderators suggest adding them to your MSN account and reporting violations there. Most moderators said that they don't check the gmail account very often any more. Granted, that was at least four months ago, so it could be different now.

Exactly what I do. I have two moderators on my MSN account and will report any rule violations to them.

Well...where can I find MSN's? I just remember Achilles saying one time not too long ago (maybe a month) to report there. And that's what I have been doing. However, what are their MSN accounts?

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

You can find most moderators' MSN accounts on their profile page. A few of them keep it in their sig too. Trigger, Nos, Jim, TGP, and Pezza are a few of the ones who have public MSN accounts.

You are aware this is a video game website right?

So? If a new member is a bit out of line upon joining, they should NOT be banned. They're new, mistakes should be forgiven. A solid slap on the wrist in the form of a warning and a lock should be enough to set them on the right path. Bans are just harsh, and should be reserved for intentional and deliberate rule breaking, for example, when they ignore a warning and carry on anyway.

And they keep waiting for "hawt chix" to IM them.

Half of that list think i'm called Jessica and wear a skirt. Do i count?

That was responding to Recon's post about their parents should be monitoring what websites they go to. All the children say is that "It's a video game forum" and the parents are not worried. It's like going to http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/, they believe it's just children's play. They are not from the video game generation.

This was all about Java2's signature btw. Maybe you should actually read who and what I was quoting before you quote me and throw a comment of what you think I was talking about.

I know. I didn't actually mean to leave that particular sentence in :). I have a habit of cropping quotes and cropped to the wrong bit. I should have quoted...

Although it is rated M for Mature anyone who uses Halo 2 Xbox Live knows after two games that Mature rating goes out the window.

My point was that this isn't XBL and this isn't halo 2. We have moderators here. The fact that someone might join an immature prick doesnt mean they'll always stay an immature prick. They could turn into a valued member. The fact they were an eejit upon joining shouldn't hinder them.

This was all about Java2's signature btw.

To be honest, if you're offended by the term "ass" with a comical, albeit crude, drawing alongside, you probably shouldn't be on the internet.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Sometimes, I miss the days of Shishka.

Boy, I tell ya... If I ever became a moderator...

Let me tell you; no, you wouldn't.

You would not act how you think you would.

30+ members banned, if it wasn't ignorance, then I don't know what else to call it.

It's sad isn't it?

What was a perfectly good thread became just short of a mass banning (well it kinda is.)

What will it take for people to just grow up? Honestly.......

In all seriousness, there should be a place where all moderators can go to find reported topics that way, any mod can just look up the topic. It makes it difficult to contact a mod when you have to contact them in seperate spots.

I hope Lukems raises the ban hammer high the way he promised he on 1up Yours. And even better, instead of volunteering, he'd be getting paid for it now.

Big scare tonight in Halo 3 Forum LOL

Someone who got a hold of the game (which is true) was supposedly posting the real spoilers on another forum (don't know if that was true) and an account was created to spam said spoiler tonight.

I definitely grazed the long paragraph. Thankfully they didn't like...."bold" or "all cap" the important parts. I was close to getting spoiled!

And like 10 threads were made the next minute about this isolated incident. This is probably just the beginning. I'd imagine this week to have potentially the most mass bannings in Bungie.net history.

This is gonna sound weird but admist all the chaos and nonsense it's actually very entertaining to watch LOL
