Tiger Platoon - Illegitimi Non Carborundum

I've seen a few different E3 MP gameplay movies, and I can't exactly figure out what those little icons that pop up over other players heads are. Are they telling you what action they're performing (reloading, tracking, etc...like in your own HUD) or what? Someone enlighten me please.

Campaign - Halo C.E.>Halo 2>Halo 3
Multiplayer - Halo 2>Halo 3>Halo C.E.
Just about every thing I post is my opinion and nothing more. Be subjective. Respect other's opinions. Try to understand other's point of view.

They tell you who it is on your team and what they are doing; shooting, being shot, noting, carrying the flag, etc.

i was wonder that same thing when he fired the trakcing rocket in the demonstration a little orange circle with a rocket in it appeard so i think it has to do with what action you are preforming. but why would we need to know that? if we are reloading wouldn't we be able to tell by the fabulously animated reloading movments, i don't think i will look at the little circle and say "Oh i am reloading now, i didnt no that". but like you said maby other people can see it to.

One of the new features in Halo 2 MP is the ability to have a personal emblem. This emblem is represented by an icon above your head by players on your team. The ring around the icon shows health (it turns red when you're dying). Your emblem is replaced with the flag when you pick up the flag.

Weird. So that's in addition to being able to slap a custom patch on your shoulder? Do we know if it's an optional thing? Is it just to take the place of the green arrow that signified teammates in the first Halo?

that was my understanding. instead of just a green arrow to find your teamate, you kind find one of your clan members who is on your team! if you had to choose between helping one person or the other, you can help or be closer to a clan member to help keep each others stats up. i had no idea the icons show what you're doing... do they? however, i do remember a update that said that they have a cool way to tell when a buddy is getting shot at, and instead of saying "im over by that weird, green thingy over by the... nevermind, i'm dead" you'll be able to home in on him. it will be interesting to see how it all works out.
i just hope everything isn't 'cluttered'.

I don't know this for certain but after viewing the MP shots I wrote a long hypothesis complete with references. I'm not going to look for it so I'll sum it up quickly...

Not only do you have an arrow over your head, golden arrows appear around your HUD at the sides telling you which way to turn to see your allies. If you look at them directly you can see their personal sigils, even through objects.

Your personal sigil is surrounded by a border that forms a point at the bottom, pointing at you. This border around your sigil seems to have three colours.
Blue- Neutral.
Yellow- You are firing.
Red- You are taking hits.
This way you can tell exactly what's happening behind walls and determine who needs help. If one person is flashing yellow, but not red he's probably taking potshots at some guy. If another is flashing yellow and red he's in a firefight. If one guy is flashing blue and red he's not firing back... so he's probably running for his life. You should probably help out the last guy first *lol*

Well, I'm still fuzzy on what shows up over your head: a custom icon or an action or both depending on what's happening (i.e. no action = custom icon, reload = the little yellow projectilfe, etc.). The movies we've all seen tend to have 10 people, and it did look like a bit cluttered to me. Perhaps you get used to 'em.

well... i guess the icons have have more than one use then... they give a distant player some kind of I.D. so you can locate your bud (or clan member), and that icon's border can give you some info about what's going on (firing, taking fire, etc). but.. i seriously doubt you'll know if they're reloading by the icon.
i guess it doesn't seem too 'cluttered' in the mini mp vids, but i was just a little concerned. i guess you could get used to it, and probably so used to it they'll be spitting out info to you and you will pick it up like driving- natural-it'll just come without a great deal of focus or concentration.
