Chapter 1 - Memories
"Hey, get up! Come on man!", I hear as I awaken from my sleep.
I take a look at the clock, 6:14 AM, 7/7/07. Bungie Day. I roll over and see Jimmy turning on the Xbox 360 and grabbing one of the controllers. I sit up on the bed so that my feet dangle from the top bunk.
"Do you know if it goes on both of our accounts?", I ask.
"Guess we're gonna find out", he replies as he slips the headset over his head.
I jump from the bunk still in my pajama bottoms without a shirt and come up behind him. I look as he goes through the menus looking for the promised special content for Bungie Day, and I drag my self over to the other desk and grab my latop.
I hop back onto the bunk and open the laptop. I've been waiting for this day ever since I found out about a date with the number 7 in it 3 times, 777. Bungie's lucky numbers.
"They're downloading now. I'm gonna go take a shower, if you want I'll be waiting", Jim says as he walks into the bathroom laughing. I get a chuckel out of it and continue browsing Bungie.net to see what other cool things they got.
I notice a new gorup spotlight, normally I overlook these, but this group was lead by Frankie. Frankie doesn't usually run groups so I click the link without looking at the name. Once I get to the page I notice the name, Bungie Army. Probably another joke of his just like the whole "Taking over the world" thing.
I look back down at the clock on my computer, 6:23 AM. I switch on the news to see if anything interesting happens, but it's the same old same old. "Old lady hit by car", "child missing", "I'm getting paid more than you to make up stupid news stories". I go back to the group and join it, and almost instantly I'm sent a private message.
I put my cursor over the private messages link...it's from Frankie. It reads...
Dear Recruit,
We are the grand Army of Bungie, with our leader being the mister cheif. By joining our brave and noble group, you agree to risk your life for our cause, no matter the outcome, and that by not doing so, we have the right to put ninjas on you. If you still would like to join us, simply click the below link.
I quickly click the link, and it brings me to the forums. More talk of world domination, mister chief, ninjas, and of course...beheadings. I close Bungie.net and look at the floor to see if there's any shirts I can wear.
"Breaking News-", I hear and I hop out of the bed and begin looking around for a shirt. Usually breaking news on this channel is nothing exciting but something caught my ear and I turned and looked at the TV.
"...we are urging everyone stay indoors and that anyone within the New York area please stay calm and await evacuation..."
I immediatley pound on the door and Jimmy walks out with a towel around his waist and we look at the TV to see a mushroom cloud rising from New York City...
I hear another explosion and we look around, and then another, and then another. All of a sudden, I awake to the grim present time as I roll over to see my platoon running every which direction through the forest. One of the soldiers even gets closelined by a branch. I rummage for my gear and sling my pack over my shoulder and grab my rifle.
As I grab for my rifle, I noticed a deformed skunk of some sort guarding it. After looking at it a little bit longer, I notice its an arm...my Sargents arm. I grab my rifle and put my helmet on and look around to see the platoon retreatingfor some reaosn. Mortar rounds and artillery are blowing apart trees and people all around.
I run with the platoon, not thinking why they are retreating or what from, but as to how much longer I got until what their running from catches up with me. I run as more mortars hit in front of me and planes make a sonic boom only a few feet above the treeline. Then I notice about 100 yards ahead of me that a napalm bomb had detonated and was burning through the other soldiers.
I dodge left as a mortar hits next to me blowing my helmet off my head. I continue to run until I reach the trenches duh in on the hill top. As I look at the hill though, I see soldiers running towards the top from all sides as its blown to bits. I wish I could live in my dreams...before this madness...
I just decided to play with the idea. I know I'm horrible at writing, but I figured I'ld give it a shot. I'm also putting up a chapter a day, so if you do like it, stay tuned.
