"My knee is bleeding, can I have a bandaid?" "Today its your knee, and in 10 years it'll be your wrists, why are you making this my problem?"

Do this again and I'll brand your ass with the banning prod

Make around 10 pages. It works for me.

try asking your teacher how long it should be, Be fair to yourself keep writeing till you think you've coverd your topic with anough detail that whay if you get a bad grade you can at least till your teacher you did your best and not lie about it. Ancient egypt bye itself is a big topic you could write a hundred pages and still have plenty to right, I would have picked a specific topic like a king then wrote about him then all of egypt.

Some teachers are just freaks in 6th grade I wrote a report about the winword island it was 65 pages and I only got a B.

Yeah, my 3rd grade teacher required us to write a novel during Christmas break. Mine was 752 pages and I got an A-.

One time, in the 5th grade, I wrote a book about life and it got c+. The only thing was, it wasn't supposed to be graded...

Quantity doesn't always mean quality. For Geography in grade 9, the culminating activity was a project called "A Tour of Canadian Ecozones." Mine was 30 pages long and I got a 90%. There were people doing 100 pages getting 80s. I laughed at them, in my mind.

The longest thing I've ever had to write was 15 pages. (not the longest I've ever written, just longest I've had to do for a school assignment)

A part of me is glad. Very glad, in fact. The other is sad, because I feel as though I have missed out on an education. As a gifted student in a public school in the 48th worst educational state I've felt rather bored and unchallenged (even in the "gifted programs"). If kids are able to write 100 page reports on subjects I didn't even know existed (back then, anyway) in the 9th grade, then what does that say about myself and my peers? It's basically damning us in a world where education is so vital to success.*

*I say "success" generically

And all of this is assuming, of course, that you're not all talking out of your asses. For the record I suspect you are.

Edit: In fact, I guarentee it. The ability to achieve what you said you had to do in 9th grade isn't possible for the vast majority of students; your brain is simply not developed enough cognitively to handle it.

No, I was completely serious that I wrote a 800-page novel in the third grade in a period of two and a half weeks.

Damn you. The longest paper I've ever written for school was only 5 pages long. It was on the central nervous sytem. To be fair, I only had 4 hours to do it. Including research. I slapped it together, most of the pages were just bullcrap. Not made up, but just ramblings under the guise of coherent, factual information.

God, how much do you write on a page? Is it about 20 words or summat, as im at university, and my essays are expected to be about 2000 words long, which in my hand writing (and on thin line paper) equates to roughly 5 pages of work. Im hearing about these 15-100 page things and im going WTF. All i had to ever right at school was about 4 pages long, and that was in my then larger handwriting.

What really matters is quality, not quantity. If you can produce a consice but well argued or good covering of the topic you are doing, and all the grammer is correct, the language is suitable for your age group and it is well structered, it will get better grades (or should do) than some very long waffle about everything you could think of. I remeber (i went to a successful British state school) that when i was 13, i was expected to write about 800 words.

This of course could be different depending on where you are writing this and if you are meant to cover the whole topic of Ancient Egypt even briefly (which i doubt), you could need to write a whole load of pages. Just ttry to get the important factors into your essay, not everything you can think of.

Looking at my own post I am realiseing that I havent structered my own reply very well or clearly. Hope it is still of come use.

My English teacher always said:

"An essay should be like a girl's skirt, Short enough to keep it intresting, But long enough to cover the subject matter."

The project I was talking about involved a lot of pictures. That's probably the cause of such high page numbers. Still, I can't grasp the idea of doing a 100-page report in grade 9.

You live in Scandinavia? What country? I live in Sweden.
I don't think you need that much. Last year, when I was in 8th grade, we were supposed to write an essay about Australia. I got 6 pages of fact, and got the highest grade etc.
I don't think you need all that much, if your school is similiar to mine. 7 pages shloud be enough, I think.
And if you're only 13, you probably won't even need 7 pages. The longest essay I did when I was 13 was 3 pages.
If you can, you should ask your teacher.

This reminds of that I have a 4 page essay about Canada I must hand in on monday... perhaps I should get started...
Anyone here who knows a good source for Canada info?

I guess you were trying to be ironic.

Another ironic thing: My writing today is incredibly poor. It's taking effort to produce a coherent post. I guess I'm lucky I don't have to write 10 page papers like some of you do, as I have these days about once a week.
