Thanks for the Monday update... I'm a long time reader, first time poster.
Kudos to Bungie on this forward-leaning idea. They could have just created a complex map editor with hundreds of options which would have been lost on most players and would have most likely resulted in a glut of crappy user-created maps. It look like they distilled the best aspects of the Bungie-created multiplayer maps and made them pretty customizable. (I'm particulary interested in the "goal-type" objects. We'll see how that worked for them in a few days. The social aspect of multiplayer forge is pure Bungie. This should provide hours and hours of mindless chaos and nuanced re-playability. Again great work!
Speaking of Bungie-created multiplayer maps, I know the games hasn't even hit stores yet, but.... is it too early to start thinking about downloadable content in the form of Map-[insert intensifying modifier here] packs? Just think... Last story in the narrative "arc," great 'new' console with almost unlimited memory, and the ease of purchase and incorporation of DLcontent over XBL... I'm thinking (and hoping) Bungie will budget some time dedicated to enhancing the game with additional maps.
