It makes me considerably worse, even on a large TV. I rely on sound a lot, and split screen totally disorients me on where shots are coming from. Also, I think that I may get distracted with all the other things happening so close to my screen. I play well on small TVs, so I do not think that it has to do with the size of the screen (unless, of course, it is split screen on a very small TV to begin with).
Also, like the guy above me said, framerate. I totally forgot that, and that may be the biggest problem for me. That makes it a fact that you play worse on split screen because you are automatically put at a disadvantage for that. I guess the average player would not notice as much as better players because they play for fun, while most of the people I play with do not even know why they (and I) play. We are just so good that we want to perfect every move that we make(I am not trying to brag). Off topic- Being really good is a curse- you just keep playing all night because you keep winning, or when you lose, you know exactly what you did wrong so you fix it. It is not even fun- I do not envy pros for that fact (maybe for the money). Now that I am in college, I don't even have time to log in. I will find time for Halo 3, though.
Well, sorry for going on about nothing. Bottom line- split screen makes me bad enough to where my neighbor (who is decent) can come close to beating me. At least it does not make me bad enough to lose to noobs.
