I am new at this and seem to do OK in the Slayer fights for someone that does not have much exp. BUT - in head to head fights I keep getting killed most of the time and it seems everyone knows something that I DO NOT !!!! So I am frustrated, can someone help?
Sometimes I will unload a tom of rounds into their head and it seems a guy will just come along and kill me with one bullet ?
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG ?? Some guys get 30 kills and I get 4-5 usually -

I know exactly what you're talking about, as I run into this all the time myself. Unfortunately, to explain why will open this thread up to a discussion about cheating. The best answer to you is to save up your money for Halo 3, as the same problems will not occur there. You will enjoy fair gameplay that accurately represents your skill level.

BR fights- be agressive but hit them in the head.
I tend to stand back and kill people with the BR when they're not attacking me. I can win BR fights.

For the loss. Just hit them in the body three times then once in the head. Why aim for the point you're most likely to miss when you can do the same thing with 3 body shots?

Those who live by the sword... get shot by those who don't.

A lot of people do something called button glitching. Essentially, this allows them to shoot a little faster or melee more than once more quickly or a combination of both. It can give them a slight advantage and might be a reason that you die and they survive, even if you started shooting first and didn't miss a shot.

Also, it sounds like some of it might just be lag / inconsistencies among xboxes. This is caused largely by slow/bad connections and your xbox thinking you shot him and his saying you didn't. What this can lead to is it looking like you're shooting him a ton, even to the point of taking down his shields and seeing blood come out of his head. But if his xbox claims you're not hitting him, even if you are on your xbox, the system is set up to believe his xbox over yours.

These sound like the two primary culprits. I know they're frustrating - I've gotten the short end of the stick because of these two things, too. But Halo 3 should be better.

If you play a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices.
The scary part is that if you play it forward it installs Windows.

hey great explanations.
i've always had the same problem, figured it was from cheating or lag.
i didnt get any of that with halo 3 demo....i cant wait 6 days !!!!!

Funny. I button glitch in Halo 2, and am really good (with or without the bitton glitching).

I played the Beta and DESTROYED all the kids hoping that the lack of button glitches would make them magically better.

So is it my button glitching, or my aim, knowlege of maps, teamwork, communication, skill with grenades and melees, and smart tactics ?

I guess it is just because I am always double shotting (sarcasm, I rarely doubleshot, but I do BxR/BxB instinctively, but so does everyone i play against and with)

Point is, the people you are expecting to beat in Halo 3, just because there aren't any button glitches, will probably still beat you. Because relying on button glitches isn't skill. Being able to Aim, make smart decisions, use teamwork, AND throw in an occasional button glitch, is what the good players do.
You'll never see me running at you trying to BxR you, when I could just step back and 4 shot you. But if I round a corner and you're in my face, I will instinctivly BxR you.

H2 pros will be H3 pros. End of story.

I did quite well in the Beta as well, but I'm not sure playing against a rather limited pool of players proves much. With your other skills you claim, you should do great in H3, although I'm not sure why you got so defensive about something that does little to improve your score...as you claim.

I guess it came off as being defensive. My bad.

I just can't stand the ignorance of some people thinking that button glitching is the reason they weren't good at Halo 2, and since there is no Bxr in Halo 3 they assume they will now become magically good.

That wasn't directed at you, just people who feel that way in general. I don't know your stance on button glitches and how it will effect players transitioning from H2 to H3, I won't assume that is how you feel, but I do think people that truly believe that are very ignorant as to what makes a Halo player a great Halo player.

With that strategy you'll waste shots if you don't know exactly how much shields they have remaining. You can fire three body shots and discover his shield went out on the third shot and end up firing the fourth shot to the head for the kill. If you always go for the head you would have only needed to fire three shots. On what could be the finishing shot you waste time and bullets by going for the body and in the meantime leave yourself open to get your kill stolen.

Exactly.
Besides, I almost always engage the head to head fights, I have the advantage of the first shot, why not make it count?
Even then, I usually pick people off before they even fire a shot at me.

brownish pile253 maybe we should all quit our jobs and play halo full time like you.
halo 3 will definitely be on a more even playing field...where the better player will win just on skill alone.
and the button glitch isnt even about skill you can buy modded controllers on ebay.
"H2 pros will be H3 pros. End of story."
theres halo pros ? you mean you can really get paid to play this game...
