Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Actually, in many people's eyes, Halo 2 had nowhere near the relay value of the first Halo. The main reason it has lasted so long is that it had Xbox live support, and the multiplayer still had tons of replay-ability when compared to all other games on the market. (Consider the fact that despite a lack of XBL support, Halo 1 was being played on a regular basis for three years. Halo practically invented the Xbox LAN party, and people would drive miles to join a tournament, or even FLY to some of the larger LAN events.)
In my opinion, Halo 3 will be what Halo 1 and Halo 2 should have been. It will bring the fun and epicness (yeah, new word) of Halo with the diversity and online community of Halo 2. I will be shocked if it doesn't remain on the top played lists for at least a year. And that is a conservative estimate. If I were betting, I would say that it will be the most consistently played game for at least three years, even though other games may take the top spot for short intervals.
