first of all halo 3 will be more awesome then halo 2 so considering halo 2 lasted like 3 years and its still popular so halo 3 technically should last longer although it wont be the same amount of improvement improving something great is alot harder then improving something not as great(ie Halo:CE)

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Actually, in many people's eyes, Halo 2 had nowhere near the relay value of the first Halo. The main reason it has lasted so long is that it had Xbox live support, and the multiplayer still had tons of replay-ability when compared to all other games on the market. (Consider the fact that despite a lack of XBL support, Halo 1 was being played on a regular basis for three years. Halo practically invented the Xbox LAN party, and people would drive miles to join a tournament, or even FLY to some of the larger LAN events.)

In my opinion, Halo 3 will be what Halo 1 and Halo 2 should have been. It will bring the fun and epicness (yeah, new word) of Halo with the diversity and online community of Halo 2. I will be shocked if it doesn't remain on the top played lists for at least a year. And that is a conservative estimate. If I were betting, I would say that it will be the most consistently played game for at least three years, even though other games may take the top spot for short intervals.

I think it will do better than Halo 2 simply because most of the things that people hated in Halo 2 will be gone. I know a lot of people that quit playing Halo 2 matchmaking because of many forms of cheating that went on ( button glitchers, superjumpers, standbyers). Most of these problems have been dealt with and that will draw back all those that quit playing Halo 2. The banhammer has done a good job of getting rid of a lot of them, but I'm sure there will still be cheaters out there, but it won't be near as bad as Halo 2 matchmaking was. That and the fact that people can make their own maps, and veto games they don't want to play will make it awesome for years to come.

That's true, no more superbouncing, button glitches and less cheating will make Halo 3 a more enjoyable online experience.

Of course, Halo 3 will be an AMAZING game...perhaps the best game yet! But will it be the same jump from Halo 2 as Halo 2 was from Halo CE?

Halo 2 lasted as long as it did (and still is actually) because it was such a big improvement from Halo CE. But will Halo 3 be AS big of an improvement from Halo 2 as Halo 2 was from Halo CE?

Lets compare:

Halo CE: Campaign. Multiplayer. Different colors for players. System Link (?).

Halo 2: Campaign. LIVE Multiplayer. More gametypes. More maps. Better graphics. Customized gametypes. Emblems and more colors. Clans. Custom games. DLC. Rankings. Friends list. More weapons, vehicles. System Link (Let me know if I missed any)

Halo 3: LIVE Campaign. LIVE Multiplayer. More gametypes. Better graphics. Forge. Saved Films. New B.net. Armor perms. Achievements. Meta games. More weapons, vehicles. System Link. NO Clans (Possible con?) More emblems and colors. (Let me know if I missed any).

So...it just might be possible that Halo 3 won't last as long as Halo 2.

Or, I might be crazy because I know that I'm going to have a lot of fun with Forge. :p
