Gunsmoke, how in the hell did they postphone it for years? It was announced in 2002. The last time I checked it was 2004. Why does it matter whether or not people are speculating over the next game? You appear to be the dumb one.

I reckon the Arbiter will die at the end of Halo 3. His path so far has been a dark one. He has been defeated in battle, and then betrayed by the regime he has worked his whole life to defend. Having him die at the end of Halo 3 would be a fitting end I think.

YOU IDIOTS THERE ISNT 1 COVEANT HOMEWORLD ITS 7 DIFFRENT SPECIES IT SAYS IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME. THEY FORCED EACH OTHER TO JOIN. AND IF HE DID BLOW UP THEIR WORLD HED NEED A HELL LOT OF EXPLOSIVES THEY CALL EARTH EXTREMLEY PUNY AND HED HAVE TO BLOW UP EACH SPECIES PLANETS. THE COVEANEAT ARE AN ARMY NOT BRETHRENN.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they sound a hell of a lot smarter than you do. and youre the idiot, because the species within the Covenant no longer inhabit their native planets,so the MC wouldnt have to go blow up 7 different planets. and if you read First Strike, which i doubt, from your obvious lack of intelligence, the UNSC,(theyre the good guys,in case you didnt know) have a new bomb(something that explodes and goes BOOM) called the Nova, which is capable of destroying a whole planet,so they can just use those on the Covies' planet.

to the person that said there are at least 7 ships, yeah there are but a big ass covie fleet just appeared at earth at the end of the game so yeah if they manage to survive at all they will be lucky, play the game before criticizing me and who said that there are only 3 prophets? I don't really think 3 dudes have lived that long and managed to control the whole covenant so after defeating truth and his fleet MC and cortana will probably discover that there are more prophets and a new fleet on its way to earth or something like that.

The civil war between the elites and brutes in that one fleet will probably weaken it enough for earth to barely survive but since no human has ever seen a covenant planet there is no way to say the fight is over if truth is stopped, if truth and his fleet are all killed then all it does is give the humans a small gap before the next wave, like the second larger wave that always comes after the initial covie attack. Plus, like in all the games and books there seems to be endless waves of covies to attack the puny humans so either the halos or flood are probably going to play a huge part in stopping them. There is no way that Halo 3 is not going to be an epic game and to the guy who said they haven't started halo 3 yet, YES THEY HAVE, it says so in the weekly question answer thing so don't make assumptions without the facts to back it up.

Everyone, let's be reasonable about this. The latest statistics I have seen indicate that HALO 2 has sold over 5 million copies, and that the total copies of HALO and HALO 2 sold have totalled over 11 million. Now, assuming this 5 million copy estimate is true, this has occurred within 1 month of its release. That would mean HALO sold 6 million copies over the past 3-4 years. HALO 2 has just entered the holiday season, and there's quite a few more years left for people to be buying. Odds are that whatever it cost to make this game has been repaid and a whole lot more given the sales of HALO 2 already. If Bungie takes an economic approach to this, they sure as hell will make a HALO 3 (or some future variation of the game). Bungie's been rather tricky in the past, don't you think? If they say there's no plans for a HALO 3, maybe that's code for plans of a different title. Maybe "The Arc"? It'd be considered HALO 3, but, of course, with a different title.

But what would this game end with? I don't want to speculate on that. Too many possibilities. I'd rather wait and play with what I have. I'm having a hard enough time getting through HALO 2 on Legendary by myself (and by that I mean beating every level one after the other on Legendary). I still have this idea that if I can beat every level by myself on Legendary that I'll get some alternative ending or see something new. I haven't read about anyone on the net beating it on Legendary alone yet, so I have no reason to believe that it's all the same and pointless. Let's just play with what we have and enjoy it. We can wait a year or two to begin demanding answers on a sequel!

Why Halo 3? Why not Halo 2 Part 2? In the Bonus DVD they admitted the game was far too long and they had to cut stuff out. The Halo 2 Soundtrack is named "Volume 1"(possibly 1 of 2).

I think it will end with the destruction of High Charity and the convenant religion, leaving all races to form an uneasy peace with the humans, which could be the subject/storyline of many future 'halo' games...

Nexus - because a game called Halo 2 part 2 sounds stupid. The all out Covenant attack on Earth shown (briefly) at the end of the game means make or break time. You couldn't release a part 2 with the MC saving Earth and preventing the Ark from being used. There wouldn't be any point for another game after that.

I doubt that there will be any more Halo games after Halo 3. I don't see how it could be exciting to be the Master Chief in a universe filled with "uneasy" peace agreements. Look! Another highly sophisticated alien race to battle with! Defeat the remains of the Flood with your Covenant allies! It just doesn't sound right.
Plus a trilogy would be nice. Bungie pretty much has stuck to a standard trilogy formula so far.

First game - Not sure whether or not it will make money, so they give closure to in-game events, but not to events in the universe at large.
Second game - Darker than the first game. Tale of betrayal and battling against even more overwhelming odds. Usually ends on a cliffhanger.
Third game - Closure of everything. The bad guys are totally and utterly defeated. The good guy gets the girl (or AI), defuses the bomb and saves the world.

I personally think that the halo 3 story will go like this, master chief tries to stop truth on that ship but before he can they land somewhere in the desert near new mombasa's remains. Then he loses him in the chase. Master cheif regroups with the other marines and starts up a super huge very wide open thousand tank ans million man dessert battle like ww2 style, where the objective is not really to kill them all, but to make your way across the battle fied to get to truth and jack his hover seat and bash his brains in. Then the covenent get defeated then you find out that the ark was discovered you go in and find out that the only way to stop the flood with out activating halo is to kill gravemind, so you return to high charity or it comes to you with that warp thingy. then you go on link up with cortana who gives you info of what she found out about gravemind and how to kill him then like the last level of halo 1 you run around a lage room while you fire rockets at him while the flood just pour in by the hundreds. then once hes dead. you get a cut scene of the flood no longer being as smart and organised and no longer an intergalactic threat. Then the arbitor and the elites begin telling all about what the profets were going to do and then either reform or go off in semi peace with the humans. That could happen or Master chief just takes 1 look at the profets guards and says screw this then goes off and plays halo 2 LOL.

Well, there are a lot of prophets, the 3 main (Truth,Regret, and Mercy) But if you read the books they also talk about a lot of minor prophets. So there is probably like 10-20 prophets out there or something. I think they WILL make a Halo 3 because they left the ending of Halo 2 sooo open. And they would make money, and if they can make money, they will do it. I bet Halo 3 will end with the Master Chief fighting on earth, earth gets glasses, he daringly escapes with Cortana and goes to blow up the Covenant home world. Humanity will escape to some otehr human planet for salvation. But other Covenant planets will regroup there army and then they will leave that open for Halo 4.

"Don't worry, I know what the aliens like'.

Bungie's next project: Sardonicism: Irony Evolved

On a scale of 1 to livid, where will the Arbiter fall when he gets back to Sanghelios and discovers that most of the planet has been battered by the NOVA bomb?

I'm beginning to think that The Flood is a metaphor for the all consuming, self-loathing horror that the forums have become.

It says in the third book that the humans have developed a new nuclear bomb which can destroy whole planets.

at the end of first strike truth says that ALL battle ready ships were to rendevous with his fleet and prepare to attack earth the fleet around high charity is most if not all of the covies remaining battle ready ships (excluding those already attacking earth) and the elites seemed to have kicked the brutes butt so therefor the humans only have to worry about the fleet thats at earth just now

if ya'll ask me the arc(ark?) is either the forerunner ship that MC was on at the end credits...or earth...i think this coz at the end credits The Arbiter asked what/where the arc(ark?) was...it then cut to earth and the ship...plus it makes sense...the Covenant finding out(well the Elites and Hunters...i think tht the Grunts r onli helping them coz they are very very big) that their religion is nothing but a lie(or a misconseption) that the prophets knew about all along.

i think if they make a H3 elites will not join forces with humanity but meerly avoid conflict with humans...or just drop out of the war all together.

Phore asks: Why wasn't there an invasion of earth like promised in all the trailers and stuff? The actual game didn't have an invasion at all!

SPOILER WARNING: If you pay attention to the plot, you'll note that the Covenant very distinctly did NOT have a full invasion force and seemed somewhat surprised to find the human Homeworld. Seems to me, from watching the cinematics, that the Covenant were in our solar system searching for something else.

Interesting, isn't it?

After evreyone elses opinion, Znite's post above is easily the cleverest thing of them all. Cortana clearly said that the Covenant were surprized to find humans at Earth, and there was no other possible reason for them to be there other than to get something-The Ark for instance. I bet anything that the Ark is on Earth, or another planet in the Solar System. Also, there was no reason for the Covenant to attack Earth without a full invasion force, as they could have easily took over the planet faster if they did not need to get down to Earth. I think you will find this out toward the end of the game, and eventually, the Elites, Hunters, Grunts (etc.) and all the 'good' covenant will make an alliance with the humans, and turn against the Jackals, Prophets and Brutes (and those homo-blam!- fly thingys!). Then there will be some corny Holywood Style cutscene at the end where MC and the generals salute the arbitor and the others leaving.

Oh, thats all, but does anyone else have any ideas on what will happen to the Flood and Cortana. MC will probably go and get her, incase she gives out too much intel.

The third Halo book gives hints what happen

The books dont got to do -blam!- with the game. if it was based on the books and stuff. why arent there 27 Spartans in halo 2?

My point exactly. But it is obvious, and if someone alredy said this and I didn't readit all so don't kill me, but the ARK is obviously on Earth. That is why the Covenant came, and why they didn't expect humans to be there. They were looking for the Ark, unaware that it was our homeworld. I have heard a few theories. Someone said that humans were the forerunners but thats bullsh. But maybe the forerunners did hide the Ark on Earth! Its easily possible. Also, where are the Spartans. I agree, I read the book and was looking forward to playing with someone more than a wussy marine! No fair! Won't there be a Halo 2 book to cover that? And not to get off subject, but a Halo movie? If they did any Halo movie, they should do one on the fall of Reach, because it has plenty of story and explains it all and also makes the book "the flood" look like crap, because fall of reach and first strike were the only good ones.

Lol samsonx, whatever floats ur boat m8...

Doesnt it say in one of the books that one of the artifacts (i think the one they found on coral) gave them the coordinates to earth. It's obvious thats why the covenant are coming to earth. If u ask me i think the prophets are just playing the other covenant races and they are using the destruction of humans as a decoy for finding the forerunner artifacts.

I think that the story will consist of the MC trying to stop the prophet of Truth and the other Covenant from finding the Ark on Earth. The Abriter will try to stop Gravemind from using High Charity or In Amber Clad to jump to Earth by activating one of the Halos. (Firing only one wont kill everything right?)

In the end we'll find out that humans are the descendents of the Forerunner's and that Earth contains an underground Forerunner installation that was the only place in the universe that is immune to the Halos pulse. Maybe they abandoned their home world then hid there and remotely activated the Halos.

The Convenant will disband and the Elites will return to their home world and the war will end.

I think that will be a good end to the story.
